Marvel continues its tradition to uplift and spotlight Indigenous and First Nations creators and characters in Marvel’s Voices: Heritage #1 this November! Five Local Captain Americas Unite on Leinil Francis Yu’s United States of Captain America #5 Cover

Marvel is currently honoring the 80th anniversary of Captain America by reflecting on the iconic hero’s legacy and future in the groundbreaking limited series The United States of Captain America. Written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Dale Eaglesham, the series sees Steve Rogers teaming up with three former Captain Americas—Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, and John Walker—when Captain America’s original shield is stolen. Along the way, they’ve met brand-new Marvel heroes who have been inspired by Captain America to defend their own communities. Introduced in each issue as Captain America travels the country, these “local Caps” come from all walks of life and writer Chris Cantwell co-created them alongside a diverse group of all-star talent. Meet Joe Gomez, the Captain America of the Kickapoo Tribe

Next month, Marvel celebrates 80 years of Captain America with an extraordinary new series: The United States of Captain America! Written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Dale Eaglesham, this limited series will be an epic adventure worthy of the iconic hero’s milestone anniversary. Joe Gomez is a construction worker, a builder in a world plagued by destruction. Every time a spaceship crashes into a bridge or block is destroyed, people like Joe make them whole fixing the mistakes of others. He extends that to helping others, refusing to charge elders for home repair services.

The saga of The United States of Captain America begins when Captain America’s original shield is stolen. And when the mysterious shield thief targets a cultural landmark in Kansas, hoping to put a permanent stain on Captain America’s image, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson are hot on his trail when they meet the Kickapoo Tribe’s own Captain America. This November, Marvel honors Indigenous history with Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices #1, a landmark special exploring the legacy and experiences of Marvel’s incredible cast of Indigenous characters in stories told by renowned Indigenous talent.

Marvel has revealed one of the covers of this upcoming book, a striking depiction of one of Marvel’s most prominent Native characters, Dani Moonstar, by Eisner award-winning artist Afua Richardson. Known for her work on the critically acclaimed series, Black Panther: World of Wakanda, Richardson brings the New Mutants leader to life in this vibrant piece showing Moonstar readying her psionic bow for her latest battle. In Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices #1, geoscientist and Lipan Apache writer Darcie Little Badger and acclaimed Whitefish Lake First Nation artist Kyle Charles will team up for a Dani Moonstar story, as the Cheyenne superhero faces the crucial question of what her Indigenous heritage means in the new era of mutantkind.

This November, Marvel celebrates Indigenous history with a landmark special, Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices #1, written and drawn by some of the industry’s most renowned Indigenous talent along with talents making their Marvel Comics debut! Celebrated writer and artist Jeffrey Veregge, who just wrapped up his exhibition Jeffrey Veregge: Of Gods and Heroes at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, is leading this book alongside a team of acclaimed creators to explore the legacy and experiences of Marvel’s incredible cast of Indigenous characters.

Hugo, Nebula, and Locus-award winning Black/Ohkay Owingeh writer Rebecca Roanhorse and Tongva artist Weshoyot Alvitre tell an Echotale like none before as she is set to play a critical role in Marvel Comics. Geoscientist and Lipan Apache writer Darcie Little Badger joins acclaimed Whitefish Lake First Nation artist Kyle Charles for a Dani Moonstarstory where she will face the crucial question of what her Indigenous heritage means in the new era of mutantkind.
