Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a massive drop as Cocaine Bear challenges

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

We said last week it was possible Cocaine Bear would challenge Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania for first place and while there was a gap, it was a bit of a race.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had a massive drop from its debut week falling 69.7% which is huge. It spells troubles for the film going forward. In its second weekend, the movie grossed $32.2 million domestically bringing its total to $167.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $75 million to bring that to $196.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $363.6 million. It has a long way to go before it reaches the totals of the first two films and with competition in Creed III opening next week, it’s going to be tough to do.

In second place was Cocaine Bear which opened with $23.1 million. Internationally, the film grossed $5.3 million for a worldwide debut of $28.4 million.

Jesus Revolution opened in third with $15.5 million. There’s no international totals.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens with a series best

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Marvel is proving that they have a winning brand, no matter word of mouth or critic reviews. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has opened with $106.1 million despite very mixed reviews. The film has only 47% from critics ad 84% from the audience as of writing this article. That’s some of the worst reviews for any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

The opening is the best of the trio of Ant-Man films. The original opened in 2015 with $57.2 million domestically and went on to earn $519.3 million worldwide. That’d be a $72.3 million opening and around $656 million in today’s dollars. The sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, opened with $75.8 million in 2018 and went on to gross $622.7 million. That would be $90.4 million and about $742.5 million in today’s dollars.

Internationally, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania grossed $121.3 million for a worldwide debut of $225.3 million.

The film has a bit of a breather with competition with just Cocaine Bear opening on February 24 having any chance to topple the film next week, but it’d have to be one hell of a showing and drop. Creed III on March 3 will likely strike a knock out punch though trading one film starring Jonathan Majors for another film starring Jonathan Majors.

Avatar: The Way of Water remained in second place losing very little from the previous week. The movie grossed $6.1 million to bring its domestic total to $657.1 million.
