Martin Sheen to Play Uncle Ben, Sally Field as Aunt May?

Marvel has officially announced that Martin Sheen will play the role of Uncle Ben in the next Spider-Man film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, set to swing onto the bigscreen in 3D on July 3, 2012.

The famed actor, known for his roles in “Apocalypse Now,” “The American President” and “The Departed” as well as a seven-year turn as President Josiah Bartlet in “The West Wing,” will join Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as the film’s villain under the direction of Marc Webb.

Heat Vision (and also reported by GeekWeek) is claiming that Sally Field will be taking on the tole of Aunt May.

Andrew GarfieldColumbia Pictures has issued a press release that Andrew Garfield will be donning the tights to play Spider-Man in the movie reboot.

Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012.  The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt.

The 27 year old landed the role after much speculation and rumors.

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents,” said director Webb in a gushing statement that was part of the same press release. “He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”Garfield has appeared onscreen in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” and Robert Redford’s “Lions for Lambs,” and his profile was already rising before the Spider-Man announcement. He will appear later this year in the film adaptation of the novel “Never Let Me Go,” opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, and in David Fincher’s Facebook pic, “The Social Network.”
