Jeremy Bastian, Jo Chen, Scott Hanna, Chris Kemple, Dev Madan, and Bart Sears are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

The Baltimore Comic-Con returns on October 17-19, 2025 to the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. The Baltimore Comic-Con has announced comics guests Jeremy Bastian, Jo Chen, Scott Hanna, Chris Kemple, Dev Madan, and Bart Sears to this year’s event. Tickets are available now.

Jeremy Bastian is the creator and illustrator of Cursed Pirate Girl from BOOM! Studios and Archaia Comics. He is renowned for his delicate detail, whimsical characters, and strange creatures, all drawn at the actual print size with a very small brush! Cursed Pirate Girl beckons to the 19th century in both subject and style. He has also contributed to Guild: Tink from Dark Horse Comics, Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard from BOOM! Studios/Archaia Comics, Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream from Locust Moon Press, and Under the Moons of Mars: New Adventures on Barsoom from Simon and Schuster. His Cursed Pirate Girl Annual was released by BOOM! Studios.

Jo Chen is a veteran illustrator and Eisner Awarding-winning comic book artist whose painted covers and pristine interiors can be seen throughout the runs of Marvel’s highly-acclaimed Runaways, Dark Horse’s Firefly/Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Star Wars: Invasion, UDON’s Street Fighter and Darkstalker books, and Wildstorm’s Speed Racer/Racer X mini-series. At age 19, her first graphic novel, The Other Side of the Mirror, was published internationally by TokyoPop, and her art graces the packaging for all of XBOX’s best-selling Fable video games. She currently illustrates the popular yaoi-noir crime drama, In These Words, published by Libre in Japan, and throughout the rest of Asia.

Scott Hanna is an Eisner Award-winning artist in the graphic novel industry. He has been drawing and inking comic books for close to 40 years. His work has been published in over 1,000 comics and graphic novels, and he’s inked over 24,000 pages of comics art.

At Marvel Comics, Scott’s worked on all the top characters at the company, known for working on most of the Spider-Man titles over the past 30 years, sometimes working on multiple Spider-Man titles at the same time. He is currently on Amazing Spider-Man with John Romita Jr., and working on covers for Daredevil. Scott has also had runs on the Avengers, Iron Man, X-Men, The Hulk, and many more.

At DC Comics, he has worked on most of their major titles, including a five year run on Detective Comics starring Batman, Green Lantern Corps, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Superman, and Teen Titans. In 2022, his new Milestone series DUO premiered. 

He is currently working with Jim Starlin on Dreadstar 2, as well as a creator-owned newspaper strip, Dodge and Hustle.

He is co-founder of the Arts and Fashion Institute in PA with his wife Pamela Ptak. Scott teaches classes in sequential art, painting, drawing, and cartooning.

Chris Kemple is one of the contributors to the digital comics effort, Artist Alley Comics. After graduating with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, Kemple worked as an assistant at Artamus Studios with Richard Case, Mike Wieringo, Jeff Parker, Casey Jones, and Scott Hampton, among others. Currently a teacher and freelance artist, Chris was a founding member of and texture artist and 3D object modeler at video game development studio, Red Storm Entertainment.

Dev Madan is an illustrator based in the Pacific Northwest who grew up on a steady diet of Saturday morning cartoons, sugary cereal, and heavy metal records. With over 35 years in the video game and comic book industries, he’s best known as the Art Director and Character Designer behind the AIAS Award-winning Sly Cooper trilogy for Sony Entertainment, as well as an artist at DC Comics on Batman Adventures, Plastic Man, and co-creator of the cult hit series Young Heroes in Love.

His career also includes roles in video game development such as Director of Art at Toys For Bob for Crash Team Rumble (PS5/Xbox/Switch/PC), Artist on Return to Monkey Island (Console/PC) with Ron Gilbert/Terrible Toybox, and Creative Director for the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, where he helped launch PvZ Garden Warfare (Console). As Studio Art Director at PopCap/EA Games, he contributed to titles such as PvZ 2 (iOS/PC), Bejeweled Blitz, and Solitaire Blitz (FB/iOS/DS). In addition, he was a founder at Loose Cannon Studios and helped launch Humongous Entertainment with Ron Gilbert.

As an illustrator, Dev worked with Squaresoft on the iconic game box covers for Breath of Fire and Final Fantasy 3, with clients including Disney, Funko, Sony Entertainment, Snap On Tools, Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers, and Wizards of the Coast.

Recent comic work includes the graphic novels Frank N. Stein: Private Eye and the all-ages series Zombie Camp.

Bart Sears has been drawing comics professionally for four decades, working for DC, Marvel, Valiant, Image, Dark Horse, CrossGen, and a number of independent publishers. A few of the many titles he’s worked on include Legends of the Dark Knight, XO Manowar, Turok, Captain America and Falcon, Blade, and Justice League Europe.

Creator of the well known cult classic art tutorial column Brutes and Babes that appeared in Wizard Magazine, Bart has inspired a generation of artists. Continuing that legacy, Bart has recently spawned a new series of how-to-draw books called Drawing Powerful Heroes. Having worked extensively in the toy and gaming industry, Bart has designed many of the toys of our childhood, including C.O.P.S., G.I. JOE, and WWF toys for Hasbro, and X-Men figures for ToyBiz as well as concept art for multiple video game titles.

Bart’s passion has always been telling relentless, powerful, compelling tales of heroes, through both art and story. He is currently working on a slew of projects, including Conan, Maiden, Dreadlands, The Black Ruins of Aramoor, Drawing Powerful Heroes, Volume 3, The Splash Page!, and much, much more.

Richard Case, Kyle Higgins, Chris Kemple, Khoi Pham, Nick Pitarra, and Stephanie Williams are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

Baltimore Comic-Con has announced comics guests Richard Case, Kyle Higgins, Chris Kemple, Khoi Pham, Nick Pitarra, and Stephanie Williams to its 25th Anniversary event! Richard Case has been illustrating comics for more than 30 years. His run on Doom Patrol with writer Grant Morrison inspired much of the recent TV series seen on HBO Max. He has also illustrated a number of books, including Sandman, Preacher, Shade the Changing Man, Hunter: Age of Magic, Dr. Strange, Sensational Spider-Man, and Batman ‘66. Kyle Higgins is an Eisner Award-nominated #1 New York Times best-selling comic book author and filmmaker known for his work on DC Comics’ Batman titles as well as his critically-acclaimed reinventions of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for BOOM! Studios, Ultraman for Marvel Comics, and his creator-owned series Radiant Black, NO/ONE, and Deep Cuts for Image Comics. He is the creative director of Black Market Narrative and The Massive-Verse.

After graduating with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, Kemple worked as an assistant at Artamus Studios with Richard Case, Mike Wieringo, Jeff Parker, Casey Jones, and Scott Hampton, among others. Currently a teacher and freelance artist, Chris was a founding member of and texture artist and 3D object modeler at video game development studio, Red Storm Entertainment.

Khoi Pham is an artist and mentor. His artworks include DC’s Teen Titans, Marvel’s Mighty Avengers, X-Men Legacy, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Chaos War, Incredible Hercules, Gambit, Mighty Thor, and X-Factor, and Top Cow’s Cyberforce. He has done numerous cover illustrations for various publications. Khoi was an attorney and venture capitalist prior to switching to art and mentoring. He has a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University.

Nick Pitarra arrived on the comics scene with the multi-Eisner nominated The Manhattan Projects, co-created with writer Jonathan Hickman. Since then, he has devoted all his creative energies to his own title, Ax-Wielder Jon. Fans responded with the highest-grossing crowdfunding campaign in Zoop’s history. 

Nick’s artistic heroes are Moebius, Geof Darrow, Frank Quitely, and Seth Fisher. His style blends all those influences and filters them through a uniquely warped sensibility. Find him on Twitter if you dare.

Stephanie Williams‘ journey from a University of Illinois at Chicago alum to a trailblazing force in the comic book world is nothing short of inspiring. Ditching the lab coat for a pen, this mom-turned-comic-book-creator has been dazzling readers with her imaginative storytelling. Her portfolio boasts an impressive array of titles, including the empowering Nubia and the Amazons, the regal Nubia: Queen of the Amazon, and the action-packed Wakanda #1. She’s also lent her voice to Marvel’s Voices, The Family Snikt, and Moon Girl, delved into the mystical world with Magic: Planeswalkers Noble #1, and put her research skills to use in her latest book, Strange and Unsung All-Stars of the DC Universe. Stephanie is done, though; she has upcoming eagerly awaited releases: a middle-grade graphic novel, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Wreck N’ Roll, Alien: Red, White, & Blood #2, and her first light novel Apple Black: Origins. With every page, Stephanie continues to redefine the comic book landscape.

Dan Brereton, Tony Fleecs, Trish Forstner, Jamal Igle, Chris Kemple, and Peter Tomasi are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

Award-Winning Creator Dan Brereton has spent over four decades in comics, having written and illustrated for nearly every major American comics publisher, on a wide spectrum of characters and genres such as X-Men, Justice League, Batman, Thor, Red Sonja, Vampirella, The Simpsons, and many more. Past clients range from Walt Disney TV Animation, Hasbro Toys, CBS, and musicians like Rob Zombie and Toto. Dan’s best-known and loved creator-owned property is Nocturnals, with a new 2-volume hardcover Omnibus out from Dark Horse Comics, and a new graphic novel currently in production. Tony Fleecs is a prolific and critically acclaimed comic book creator. His work has sold hundreds of thousands of copies in the United States and has been translated and reprinted all over the world. Tony’s creator-owned books include the Eisner Award-nominated Stray Dogs (2021), Jeff Steinberg: Champion of Earth (2016), In My Lifetime (2006), and Time Shopper (2022). You’ve seen Tony’s art on some of your favorite titles like Star Wars, Avengers, Batman, TMNT, Rick & Morty, Transformers, and just a literal TON of My Little Pony.

Trish Forstner is from Baltimore, Maryland and is a relative newcomer to the comic industry but brings a lifetime of experience in creating fun, lovable characters. She’s been drawing since she could hold a pencil. Trish loves classic animation and has drawn influence from many sources, particularly classic 80s and 90s toons. Her love of expression and emotion is on full display in any work she creates. You’ve most recently seen her artwork in the Eisner Award-nominated Stray Dogs from Image Comics and IDW’s My Little Pony comic series, as well as a plethora of variant covers for various independent titles.

A recipient of the 2011 Inkpot Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comic Art, Jamal Igle is the writer/artist/creator of Molly Danger for Action Lab Entertainment. The co-creator of Venture with Dynamo 5 creator/writer Jay Faerber and the penciller/co-creator of The Wrong Earth for AHOY Comics, Jamal is a comic industry veteran. Jamal’s detailed pencils have graced books as varied as The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas and the all ages action miniseries Race Against Time, as well as mainstream hits such as G.I. Joe, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Green Lantern. Jamal has served as the series artist for popular runs on Firestorm the Nuclear Man, Nightwing, Tangent: Superman’s Reign, Superman, Supergirl, and Zatanna for DC Comics, Noble Causes for Image Comics, and a four-issue run on New Warriors for Marvel Comics. He’s done just about everything from acting on the small screen and voiceovers for commercials, packaging books for Scholastic, and serving as storyboards artist for Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles and Max Steel: MX1 for Sony Animation. Jamal is also a popular guest lecturer on the subjects of comics and animation. Jamal worked on White, the sequel to the hit series Black from Black Superpowers/Black Mask Studios.

Peter J. Tomasi, recipient of the 2018 Inkpot Award for achievement in comics, is a New York Times bestselling author known for his writing on Batman and Robin, Superman, Super Sons, Batman: Detective Comics, Green Lantern Corps, Superman/Wonder Woman, as well as Batman: Arkham Knight, Brightest Day, Emerald Warriors, Nightwing, Black Adam, and many more, including the best-selling DTV movies Death of Superman and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. In the course of his staff career at DC Comics, Tomasi served as a group editor and ushered in new eras for Batman, Green Lantern, and the JSA, along with a host of special projects like Kingdom Come. He is also the author of the creator-owned titles House of Penance with artist Ian Bertram which was nominated for best graphic novel of the year at the 2018 Angouleme International Comic Festival, Light Brigade with artist Peter Snejbjerg, The Mighty with Keith Champagne and Chris Samnee, Blood Tree with Maxim Simic, and the critically-acclaimed epic graphic novel The Bridge: How the Roeblings Connected Brooklyn to New York, illustrated by Sara DuVall and published by Abrams ComicArts, based on Tomasi’s original screenplay which was on The Black List, as one of the best unproduced Hollywood scripts of that year.

Indie Stars Cook, Kemple, Moore, Piskor, Rugg, and Simpson Come to Baltimore

Baltimore Comic Con 2022

The Baltimore Comic-Con lights up the Inner Harbor this October 28-30, 2022 at the Baltimore Convention Center. The Baltimore Comic-Con prides itself on the breadth and depth of our comics guests, and are happy to feature creators with great indie comics cred in 2022: Katie Cook, Chris Kemple, Terry Moore, Ed Piskor, Jim Rugg, and Don Simpson. Tickets are on sale now!

Katie Cook is the creator of the comic Nothing Special on LineWebtoon, an all-ages adventure about a girl, a boy with fairy wings and a dead Radish. It’s her favorite thing and you should read it. Katie also wrote and drew the webcomic Gronk: A Monster’s Story, which lost several awards but is still delightful. Katie spent several years as one of the primary writers on IDW’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and has also done projects with Marvel, BOOM! Studios, and more (sorry for referring to some of you publishers as “and more”). She’s also illustrated several Star Wars children’s books for Disney LucasFilm Press and created artwork for the Disney Wonderground Gallery. Artist and writer! Double threat!

Chris Kemple is one of the contributors to the digital comics effort, Artist Alley Comics. After graduating with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, Kemple worked as an assistant at Artamus Studios with Richard Case, Mike Wieringo, Jeff Parker, Casey Jones, and Scott Hampton, among others. Currently a teacher and freelance artist, Chris was a founding member of and texture artist and 3D object modeler at video game development studio, Red Storm Entertainment.

Indy powerhouse, Terry Moore, began his career in comics with the critically acclaimed epic series, Strangers in Paradise, the compelling love story between three unlikely friends who find themselves bound together by their pasts. The long-running series garnered many awards, including the coveted Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story and the National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Division Reuben Award. Strangers in Paradise has been translated into twenty-one languages and is as popular today as when it was first published in 1993. Terry marked twenty-five years of Strangers in Paradise with new stories in a ten issue limited series, Strangers in Paradise XXV.

Moore has created many award winning series, including Motor Girl, the story of a wounded warrior and her imaginary best friend, Rachel Rising, a horror comic with a ten-year old serial killer named Zoe, Echo, a science fiction thriller, and Five Years, which brings together characters from all of his series in one heart-stopping story. Terry has also published a How To Draw book as well as a yearly Sketchbook. He has just finished his latest series, Serial, where he brings Zoe back to hunt down the killer of her longtime friend.

The recipient of numerous industry awards worldwide, Moore continues to create strong female characters in extraordinary stories that touch the hearts of readers around the world.

In addition to publishing work under his own label, Abstract Studio, Moore has worked for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, BOOM! Studios, and other major publishers throughout his twenty-nine year career.

Ed Piskor has been cartooning professionally in print form since 2005, starting off drawing American Splendor comics written by Harvey Pekar. The duo continued working together on two graphic novels, Macedonia and The Beats. Ed began self-publishing Wizzywig after developing a huge interest in the history of hacking and phone phreaking. His New York Times Best-Selling series Hip Hop Family Tree, which was originally serialized on Boing Boing, has gone back to print numerous times, and won the 2015 Eisner Award for “Best Reality-Based Work.” X-Men Grand Design, for Marvel, was released in 2017-2019 to wide acclaim and his current series, Red Room is his publisher, Fantagraphics’ best-selling comic in their history.

Jim Rugg is a writer, artist, designer, illustrator, and YouTuber. His comics include Hulk Grand Design, Street Angel, The PLAIN Janes, Afrodisiac, and Supermag. Honors include Eisner and Ignatz Awards and AIGA’s 50 Books/50 Covers selection. He is the co-host of YouTube’s popular comics channel — Cartoonist Kayfabe.

Don Simpson is best known as the creator of the satirical superhero series Megaton Man for Kitchen Sink Press and Image Comics, the science fiction saga Border Worlds (collected by Dover in 2017), and Marvel’s one-shot CRAZY! reboot (2019). A veteran of the 80s-90s indy movement, Don worked for every major comic book imprint in the late twentieth century, including Mirage Studios (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Image Comics (Splitting Image, The Savage Dragon vs. Megaton Man, 1963), Fantagraphics (King Kong), and DC (Wasteland, Flash Annual, Secret Origins, Action Comics Weekly). Under his Fiasco Comics imprint, Don self-published 17 issues of Bizarre Heroes, a universe of characters surrounding the cast of Megaton Man. More recently, Don has been authoring his weekly prose novel, The Ms. Megaton Man Maxi-Series, at msmegatonman.blogspot.com, a sober but wry sci-fi take on his imaginative universe. Most recently, Don teamed up with William Messner-Loebs, Jason Moore, and Tom Orzechowski on Victory Folks—The Golden Age Public Domain Supergroup in the newly-released YEET! Presents #50 in 2022. Don is excited to be a guest at Baltimore Comic-Con for the very first time this year!

Case, Dezago, Kemple, Rousseau, Woodall, & Yates Come to Baltimore Comic-Con

caseBuy your tickets now for the 2015 Baltimore Comic-Con, taking place the weekend of September 25-27, 2015 at the Baltimore Comic-Con. This year, the Baltimore Comic-Con welcomes back Richard Case, Todd Dezago, Chris Kemple, Craig Rousseau, Rich Woodall, and Kelly Yates.

Richard Case got his start at Marvel Comics, working on Strange Tales, but got his first real run on Doom Patrol at DC Comics. He has also contributed to numerous other noteworthy, acclaimed titles at DC, including Sandman, Shade, the Changing Man, Preacher, and Hunter: The Age of Magic. He is also a contributor to the Artist Alley Comics digital initiative. His recent work can be seen on DC Comics’ Batman ’66, Dynamite Entertainment’s Flash Gordon and King: Jungle Jim, and variant covers from Action Lab Entertainment’s Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess.

Comics writer Todd Dezago has been a contributed noteworthy story lines to many Image, DC, and Marvel comic books. At Marvel Comics, he has scribed runs on Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, Super Hero Squad, Marvel Adventures, Marvel Age: Spider-Man, Marvel Age: Spider-Man Team-Up, Cable, and X-Factor. For DC Comics, he has worked on Impulse, Teen Titans, JLA: World Without Grownups, Legends of the DC Universe, and Young Justice. Dezago’s creator-owned titles, Tellos and Perhapanauts, are published through Image Comics, and have garnered much attention and kudos. Baltimore Comic-Con 2014: Case, Feister, Kemple, Woodall, and Yates

sandmanBaltimore Comic-Con is less than a month away! It is the show’s premiere inaugural three-day event, held at the Baltimore Convention Center on September 5-7, 2014. The convention will welcome back Richard Case, Tom Feister, Chris Kemple, Rich Woodall, and Kelly Yates to the show!

Richard Case got his start at Marvel Comics, working on Strange Tales, but got his first real run on Doom Patrol at DC Comics.
