SDCC 2024: The Russo Brothers returns for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars with Robert Downey Jr. returning as… Doctor Doom!

Well, it’s official, Marvel Studios has pivoted its cinematic plans not just announcing two more Avengers films but the return of an actor.

In a packed Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it was revealed the Russo Brothers will return to direct two films. Avengers: Doomsday will come to theaters May 2026. That will be followed up by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.

But the biggest news might be who will be playing Doctor Doom… none other than Robert Downey Jr. Yes, the mand who played Tony Stark is behind the mask!? Maybe? It’s possible that Downey Jr. will be just playing Doctor Doom with no connection to Tony, as the mask doesn’t come off, but the return is a surprise and all the news shows that money talks.

Marvel Studios shifts its movie release schedule

Marvel Studios is already shifting around its movie release schedule of Phase 4 and 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Blade, Untitled Deadpool Movie, Fantastic Four, and Avengers: Secret Wars all have new release dates, many of these only recently announced.
