New York Toy Fair 2023: Diamond Select Toys Brings New Products and Licenses

For the first time in three years, it’s New York Toy Fair time! The toy industry’s biggest event was on hold after their last show in 2020, but it’s coming back rested, ready, and… early? That’s right, Toy Fair will run from September 30 to October 3, meaning you don’t have to wait until February to see all of 2024’s hottest toys! Diamond Select Toys and Gentle Giant LTD will be front and center, at booth #5335, bringing a wide variety of upcoming products from a vast array of licenses and a broad selection of product categories at every price point.

This year, look for new products from:

  • Marvel – Drawing inspiration from comic books, movies, TV and video games, DST and GG LTD offer a Marvel product for every type of collector – and every type of retailer! Keep an eye out for items based on the Spider-Verse, the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World, as well as the upcoming Spider-Man 2 video game.
  • Star Wars – Gentle Giant LTD has captured the Star Wars universe in bust and statue form since 2002, and their fan base grows with every new release. With the Disney+ series Ahsoka blowing up screens everywhere, look for a surge of viewers to seek out GG LTD’s upcoming sculptures based on the character and her world.
  • House of the Dragon – Based on the hit spin-off to George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, DST has deluxe action figures and Gallery Dioramas of various cast members, including Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen, as well as large resin busts of the dragons themselves!
  • Rebel Moon – Director Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi epic on Netflix has fans eagerly anticipating its Dec. 22 debut, and DST will deliver some equally anticipated collectibles, including action figures, Minimates and Gallery Dioramas!
  • Invincible – This Amazon Prime animated series from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman may not be for kids, but its cast of superheroes and villains still make for great action figures, and DST is delivering a line that will have fans setting up battles as they wait for Season 2 to arrive on Nov. 3.

Avatar Aang and friends return in Avatar: The Last Airbender—Imbalance Omnibus, now available for the first time in a paperback collection. The omnibus features work by members of the award-winning team behind Suki, Alone including writer Faith Erin Hicks, illustrator Peter Wartman, and colorists Adele Matera and Ryan Hill and with cover art by Wartman and Matera. The 224-page omnibus collects Imbalance Parts 1-3, which picks up the story where North and South left off.

When Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph return to Earthen Fire Industries—the factory owned by Toph’s father—Aang is surprised when their arrival is met with a cold shoulder. As soon as the team is asked for help at a business council meeting, the reason for the slight becomes clear: a massive bender-versus-non-bender conflict has gripped the town and is threatening to turn violent. Azula returns in Avatar: The Last Airbender — Azula in the Spirit Temple

Dark Horse Books presents Avatar: The Last Airbender—Azula in the Spirit Temple! Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures and Avatar: The Last Airbender are Dark Horse’s Free Comic Book Day Silver release

Dark Horse Comics released more details about their Free Comic Book Day Silver offering: Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures/Avatar: The Last Airbender, arriving May 6, 2023 at participating comic shops. 

Get set for adventure with a new tale from the farthest reaches of a galaxy far, far away; and a new story from the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender!

In Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, the galaxy-wide conflict between the Jedi Order and the dangerous marauders known as the  Nihil intensifies, and a shuttle full of younglings gets caught in the crossfire. This lost tale set during the fall of Starlight is written by New York Times bestselling author Daniel José Older and is illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, who also provided the cover art for this issue. Colors are by Michelle Madsen and letters provided by Comicraft’s Tyler Smith and Jimmy Betancourt. 

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang and his friends come across a village decimated by the Fire Nation. One survivor—a young child named Luumi—refuses to open up to anyone except fellow Earth Kingdom native, Toph. This comic is written by Amy Chu, with art by Kelly and Nichole Matthews, and is lettered by Richard Starkings and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt.

Avatar: The Last Airbender gets new figures from Dark Horse, Nickelodeon, and Paramount

Dark Horse Deluxe, in partnership with Nickelodeon and Paramount Consumer Products, is proud to announce a new, high-end line of figures based on the hit animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. These deluxe hand-painted plastic figures feature fan-favorite characters showcasing their ability to manipulate one of four elements, also known as bending. The base of each figure features the symbol of their respective bending style. The first two figures of the line are the Katara Figure and the Zuko Figure.

As the last known Waterbender in her war-ravaged Southern Water Tribe, Katara held onto hope in a hopeless world until she discovered the long-lost Avatar. Now, she’s a waterbending master who helped end the Hundred Year War and will always jump into harm’s way to fight injustice.

As a young prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko was originally the bitter enemy of Avatar Aang and his friends. After much internal struggle, he realized it was his responsibility to end the Fire Nation’s reign of terror. Now, as a lifelong friend to the Avatar and reigning Fire Lord, he strives to lead his people into a new era of peace.
