ThunderCats #2 Debuts a New Character Calica!

Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have announced a huge new addition to the ThunderCats mythos, with the introduction of a brand new character in issue #2!

A brand-new member is being added to the core cast by the creative team of Declan Shalvey and Drew Moss. Fans will get the chance to meet Calica early into the second issue, which arrives in stores March 13. A potential love interest for a Lion-O trying to mature and establish himself as a worthy leader, Calica’s story could go any number of ways in the forthcoming chapters and story arcs…

As her name may imply, this new young Thunderian is inspired by the appearance of Calico cats, with a tri-color fur pattern and a distinctive black patch around one of her eyes. She’s found among the wreckage of a Mu’Tant ship. More of her backstory will be revealed in the issue and beyond for readers.

Alongside the character’s first appearance, Dynamite will be unveiling a surprise second cover for the issue by series writer and superstar artist Declan Shalvey.

ThunderCats #2 will be in stores March 13. It is written by Declan Shalvey, drawn by Drew Moss, colored by Arancia Studio, lettered by Jeff Eckleberry, and edited by Nate Cosby. In addition to the newly announced covers by Shalvey, Moss, and Ken Haeser, the issue features variant covers by David Nakayama, Lucio Parrillo, Jae Lee, Ivan Tao, and an action figure cover.

Overruled, a new limited series from Arancia Studio and Dynamite

What happens after a terrible battle in which superheroes defeat the villain of the day? What if someone is injured? And who pays reparations? An award-winning international creative team, with several years of experience in the comic book industry, team up to answer all these questions with an exciting story in which the superhero world meets the legal one.

A six-issue limited series from best-selling comic book publisher Dynamite Entertainment, Overruled is Suits meets The Boys with a pinch of Marvel’s Civil War. Written by Adriano Barone, Luca Blengino, and David Goy with art by Alberto Locatelli, this new superhero legal thriller is produced together with Arancia Studio, the Italian creative atelier behind a multitude of successful international projects. Mirka Andolfo provides the main covers for every issue of Overruled.

Set to launch in 2024, Overruled will also receive an advance preview as part of a crowdfunding campaign that goes live in early 2024 with the goal of premiering a special edition of the first issue for early supporters.

Overruled delves into the ethics of superheroes in a world where public opinion is heavily polarized over the so-called “superpower problem.” Each nation holds its own stance, with some rogue states, while others adopt interventionist or libertarian approaches. In a world where superheroes have attained celebrity status, every legal case, whether criminal or civil, differs from the real world. Overruled is here to explore that dynamic in the most gripping way possible. After all… with great power comes great legal responsibility!

Before the events of Overruled, an incident simply referred to as “the Event” caused superpowers to emerge, manifesting in roughly one out of every million individuals. In the United States, the Madsen Act has been in effect for six years, mandating superpowered people to enroll in a special registry, making it illegal to conceal their abilities. Meanwhile, the rest of the legal system is struggling to adapt, and every case related to Post-Humans is unprecedented. All superpowers are individually unique, making each case a unicorn, with no actual history to reference. Based in Manhattan, Peters, Salazar & Abernathy is the East Coast’s most celebrated firm specializing in cases involving people with post-human powers.

Overruled #1 is slated for release in 2024.

Arancia Studio announces an original graphic novel based on Legendary Director Federico Fellini’s Story, Napoli-New York

Arancia Studio has announced Napoli-New York, an original graphic novel written by French acclaimed writer Jean-David Morvan, based on the film manuscript of the same name by revered director Federico Fellini. The project was one of the last works from the legendary Italian director and was co-written by Opium Den writer Tullio Pinelli.

Napoli-New York is a fictional story based on historical, real-world events from Naples in 1946, following one of 200 city air raids during World War II. After the collapse of her house, Celestina, a child tested by her complicated life, embarks on a journey with a clever and ingenuitive street urchin (a “scugnizzo”) named Carmine. The two plan to travel to New York City in search of Celestina’s older sister Agnese, who has taken residence there with her American husband. However, a chance meeting with Joseph Garofalo, a grumpy naval officer who discovers the two stowaways, will change the course of their young lives.

The graphic novel is set to be written by French comics legend Jean-David Morvan, whose books have sold more than three million copies worldwide. Morvan will team up with rising-star Italian artist Ste Tirasso.

The graphic novel will be released internationally in 2024. News on publishing partners for this first-ever adaptation will be announced this year as well.

Additionally, renowned Rome-based production company Paco Cinematografica, which produced Oscar-winning Giuseppe Tornatore’s The Best Offer, with original music by Oscar-winning Ennio Morricone, and the highly anticipated D’Innocenzo Brothers’ Sky Studios series Dostoevskij, is now producing the film’s adaptation of the manuscript by Fellini and Pinelli, directed by Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores, starring Italian A-lister Pier Francesco Favino.

Mirka Andolfo’s Sweet Paprika Comes to Image in 2021

Image Comics has announced that Mirka Andolfo is developing a new comic book series based on her new IP Sweet Paprika, already announced as an animated project developed by Arancia Studio and Grey Ladder Productions, with Director Gabriele Pennacchioli.

The comic book series, written and drawn by Andolfo, has been announced in Italy by Edizioni Star Comics (the Italian largest manga publishing house) and will be published in France as well (Éditions Glénat). This sexy, intriguing, new book is produced by Arancia Studio and will launch from Image Comics in July 2021

A sexy rom-com (with reversed roles), Sweet Paprika is Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Sex And The City, with a twist of The Devil Wears Prada: a fun and captivating contemporary fairy tale—halfway between western comic and manga style—and set in a universe populated by angels and devils. The sensual component that constantly recurs in Andolfo’s works gives life to sexy and hilarious scenes, without neglecting the themes dear to the author, such as the harsh reality that career women are forced to live and the difficulty in balancing private life and work.

Paprika, a young woman of Italian origins living in New York, is a workaholic: success has sucked up her life, making her forget the importance of time for herself and for her loved ones. To bring havoc in her life will be Dill, a naive and handsome boy with an “angelic” otherworldly attitude, who will push the young woman to question herself and help her regain confidence in herself and in men. Their totally opposite characters and lifestyles will give life to fun and irresistible stories, seasoned with a pinch of eroticism.

A full color edition of Sweet Paprika #1 will be available at comic book shops in July 2021.
