Crunchyroll lands the North American rights for Kizumonogatari -Koyomi Vamp-

Crunchyroll has announced that it has acquired North American and select international theatrical rights, including Mexico and Australia, for the ultra supernatural vampire film compilation KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- from Aniplex of America.

KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- is a three-film anime adaptation comprised of edited footage from the trilogy of films of the same name previously released in 2016 and 2017 featuring animation produced by SHAFT.

KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp– centers around a high school student named Koyomi Araragi, who survives an encounter with a gorgeous yet helpless vampire, Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade. 

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to theaters for one-day-only in North America and Mexico on August 28 and in Australia on September 5. 

It was one fateful evening when Koyomi Araragi encountered her – Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade: Legendary Vampire, Killer of Apparitions, and King of Apparitions. Her legs and arms were cruelly torn apart, her extravagant dress soaked in red; she’s a monster who finds herself in a tragic state, lying in a pool of her own blood. However, Koyomi finds her to be beautiful this way. 

Written by NISIOISIN and animated by SHAFT, KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- takes you back to the beginning, the origin of the MONOGATARI story. Originally released as three separate movies, the upcoming film installment summarizes the KIZUMONOGATARI trilogy and can be seen exclusively in theaters. 

Directed by and screenplay by Tatsuya Oishi. Original story by NISIOISIN. Produced by SHAFT. Run time: 114 minutes.

Gurren Lagan 10th Anniversary Event Coming to Otakon

Remember Gurren Lagan? Well in honor of the 10th anniversary of the awesome anime series, Aniplex of America is planning a special event at Otakon in D.C. this month. The event will feature the voiceover talent from the English language dub of the show as well as a special gift box set re-release of the series.

Aniplex of America sent out a survey earlier this year asking fans what their favorite GL scenes and episodes were and compiled that info to come up with the best episodes/scenes to screen at the event. Also, Aniplex of America will also be releasing a complete Blu-ray Disc Box of Gurren Lagan available on August 8th, which includes all 27 episodes of the TV series and both feature length movies –Childhood’s End- and –The Lights in the Sky Are Stars. 

For those of you who don’t already know, Otakon is an annual convention held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington DC to celebrate all things Asian pop culture. Anime, manga, music, video games, cosplay everything! (And the Otaku Dance Rave is also one of the biggest convention dance parties around). So Aniplex America definitely chose the right venue to announce what looks like it’s going to be one of the biggest celebrations of the Gurren Lagan franchise ever!

Sword Art Online Comes to 500 U.S. Theaters this March

The wildly popular anime series Sword Art Online is set to make its U.S. cinematic premiere with the English subtitled “Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale– A Special Event.” At this exclusive event, anime fans will experience an all-new adventure with Kirito, Asuna and their party members as they explore the world of “Ordinal Scale,” a new hit game utilizing augmented reality technology.

This one-night event comes to movie theaters on Thursday, March 9 at 8:00 p.m. local time, from Fathom Events, Aniplex of America Inc. and ELEVEN ARTS. In addition to the full-length, English sub-titled feature, the Fathom event will include exclusive content to be announced soon.

Immediately following the Fathom premiere event, “Sword Art Online The Movie-Ordinal Scale-” will kick-off its wide theatrical release.

Tickets for “Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale- A Special Event” can be purchased online or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 500 select movie theaters.

The animated TV series Sword Art Online is based on author Reki Kawahara’s light novel of the same name. Since the first volume was published in April 2009, the series has sold more than 12.5 million copies in Japan and 19 million worldwide and spawned two TV anime adaptations, video games, comic books and merchandise.

In “Sword Art Online -Ordinal Scale-” the game’s players find the line between the virtual world and reality beginning to blur, and their worst nightmares coming true. As his fellow players find themselves in danger, Kirito, the hero, is called upon once again. Can he save his friends, or is this going to be game over for him?
