Halloween Ends tops the weekend box office but delivers a sad opening for the trilogy

Halloween Ends won the weekend box office with a solid $41.3 million. That was the lowest debut of the new trilogy and might be due to the very mixed word of mouth. 2018’s Halloween opened with $76.2 million and went on to earn $159.3 million domestically. 2021’s Halloween Kills opened with $49.4 million and went on to only earn $92 million domestically.

Internationally, the film opened with $17.2 million for a worldwide total of $58.4 million. It should be interesting to see how well the film does in the second weekend, expect a massive drop but maybe Jason will come back for more as people celebrate Halloween season.

In second place was another horror film and last weekend’s champ Smile which added $12.4 million to its domestic total. It now stands at $71.2 million after 3 weeks. Over the week, the film earned $26.4 million internationally to bring that to $66.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $137.6 million.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile slipped to third place with an estimated $7.4 million. Domestically, the family film has grossed $22.8 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film has grossed $3.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $26.7 million.

The Woman King held steady in fourth place adding $3.7 million to its domestic total. The film has grossed $59.7 million after five weeks. Over the week, the movie earned $6.8 million internationally to bring that total to $16.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $76.5 million.

Amsterdam dropped to fifth place earning $2.9 million. Domestically, the film has grossed just under $12 million after two weeks. Over the week, the film added $3 million internationally to bring that to $6.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed just $18.5 million.

In comic film news…

DC League of Super-Pets is now in its second week on HBO and grossed $369,000 at the box office. It now stands about $93.1 million after a slow start, inching to $100 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $2.6 million to bring its international total to $108.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $201.7 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder looks like it’s done with its run. The film has grossed $343.3 million domestically. Internationally the total is $417.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $760.7 million, a rounding increase meaning there was likely a gain in the tens of thousands over the week.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero got a boost domestically, shooting up about $3.2 million to $38.1 million. Internationally, the film looks steady at $48.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $86.6 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 52 films earning $76,278,320 from 30,861 theaters. That’s a nice boost from last weekend’s $58,927,041 from 39,154 theaters and 60 films. The average earning was $2,471.67 this past weekend, a nice increase from last weekend’s $1,505.01.

Smile tops the weekend box office again

Smile was a repeat at the top of the box office in another rough weekend. The film grossed an estimated $17.6 million to bring its domestic total to $49.9 million. Over the week, the film grossed $25.5 million internationally to bring that total to $40 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $89.9 million after two weeks.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile debuted in second place with an estimated $11.5 million. No international total has been reported.

Amsterdam debuted in third place with an estimated $6.5 million. The film also grossed $3.5 million internationally for a total of an even $10 million.

In fourth place was The Woman King which grossed an estimated $5.3 million to bring its domestic total to $54.1 million. Internationally, the film grossed $6.6 million over the week to bring that total to an even $10 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $64.1 million.

Rounding out the top five was Don’t Worry Darling which grossed an estimated $3.5 million to bring its domestic total to $38.5 million. Over the week, the film grossed $19.7 million internationally to bring that total to $30.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $69.3 million.

Over the week, the film grossed about $4.4 million to bring its international total to $106 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $198.5 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder grossed an estimated $19,000 as it’s now on Disney+. The film has grossed $343.3 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed about $360,000 to bring its international total to $417.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $760.6 million.
