Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead delivers a Murderer’s Row of Writers, Artists, and Grisly Killers

The upcoming all-star anthology comic Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead will unveil the terrifying origins of the grisly killers from bestselling hit series Exquisite Corpses Season 1. The extra-length one-shot comic, hitting shelves in January 2027 from Image Comics and James Tynion IV’s production house Tiny Onion. It will feature a murderers’ row of writers and artists and follows the launch of three Exquisite Corpses spin-off miniseries, each about one of a trio of favorite killers from the bloody first season (Rascal Randy, Fox Mask Killer, and Lone Gunman).

Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead features stories written not only by series co-creators, Eisner award-winning horror masterminds James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh, but also by Jordie Bellaire, Marguerite Bennett, Patrick Horvath, Alyssa Wong, Steve Orlando, Josh Trujillo, Soo Lee, Victor Lavalle, and Losty. 

The top-tier writers will be joined by popular artists David Lafuente, Piotr Kowalski, Lauren Knight, Claire Roe, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Lisandro Estherren, Brian Level, Francesca Ciregia, and Ryan Quackenbush.

The issue will also feature a darkly gorgeous main cover and surprise polybagged variant by Walsh as well as variant covers by A-list artists such as Brian Level, Ito, Federico Mele, and Tula Lotay. The polybagged variant will have a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game.

Now readers will discover the backstories of the other infamous assassins while also getting a scary sneak peek at one of the new killers from the upcoming Season 2. 

In the first season of Exquisite Corpses, twelve of the deadliest killers in the world entered Oak Valley on Halloween night. But only one would survive to see the dawn. For the rest, their stories ended in decapitation, conflagration, or even more ignoble defeats. But now, thanks to overwhelming demand, creators from across the horror spectrum have assembled to reveal the never-before-seen origins of Exquisite Corpses’ cast of assassins, mercenaries, and madmen! Discover the Congregation’s unholy mission, the spark behind Layla Blaze’s scars, Lady Carolina’s first hunt, and more in this extra-sized, blood-soaked issue.

The 80-page Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead ($9.99) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, January 13.

NYCC 2026: Alyssa Wong and Vincenzo Carratu kick off the new Baldur’s Gate 3 ongoing series with a tale of murder and mayhem

Dark Horse Comics and Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast have announced the new ongoing series, Baldur’s Gate 3, featuring fan-favorite characters like Astarion, Shadowheart, Karlach, and more. The first six-issue story arc will follow beloved vampire spawn Astarion Ancunín as he hunts a killer in Waterdeep, with future arcs revolving around Karlach, Wyll, Shadowheart, Gale, and Lae’zel, with appearances other Baldur’s Gate 3 characters.

Astarion’s story arc will be written by award-winning author Alyssa Wong, penciled by Vincenzo Carratù, inked by Elisabetta D’Amico, colored by Valentina Taddeo, and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin. There will be five cover variants available, with art by Gerald Parel, Scott Fischer, Angela Wu, and Tyler Walpole, and one blank character creation cover.

In the first six issues of Baldur’s Gate III, Astarion Ancunín is enjoying his freedom after escaping the clutches of Cazador Szarr. But when Waterdeep is rocked by a spree of gruesome ritual murders, Astarion must hunt down the killer before he becomes their next victim!

The next twelve issues (#7-18), following Karlach into the Nine Hells, will be written by Becky Cloonan and illustrated by Francesco Scimonelli. Stay tuned for more details next year!

Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Marvel Mangaverse with Five Weekly One-Shot Comics!

The age of super heroes has come to an end, but the Marvel Mangaverse still needs saving. Get set to revisit the world that introduced fans to manga-inspired versions of Marvel’s most famous super heroes and villains with a series of five one-shot comics releasing weekly throughout September in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Marvel Mangaverse. Bookended by Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1 and Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1, a two-part storyco-written by the father-son duo of Joe and Jack Kelly with art by Kenny Ruiz that kicks off a dramatic apocalyptic event reverberating into each weekly one-shot, the Mangaverse 25th Anniversary specials pay homage to modern manga storytelling while introducing new versions of fan-favorite Marvel characters and focusing on deep, world-building lore.

In Web of Blood and Web of Destiny, readers are re-introduced to the Mangaverse, in a story that’s positioned as if the comics line had been published continuously for over two and a half decades in both the real world and in-universe. The trio of Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Weapon X-Tremis (Laura Kinney), and Legion (Illyana Rasputin), friends with very different ideas on how to stop a prophesied apocalypse brought on by the return of the Phoenix, will turn on one another as they wrestle with whether their actions are more likely to save the world… or hasten its destruction. Could the return of the Mangaverse be over before it even starts?

After the dominoes begin to fall in Web of Blood, writer Cody Ziglar and artist Kei Zama (turn the spotlight to the city of new Chicago and resident Riri Williams, who protects the streets as Ironheart using a mana-powered suit of armor After losing a close friend, Riri finds herself traveling down a dangerous path of vengeance alongside the legendary sorcerer known as Moon Knight in Marvel Mangaverse: Iron Knight #1, a shonen-inspired and action-packed one-shot, available September 9.

The next one-shot comes by from the team of rising star writer Ashley Allen and artist Mirka Andolfo as they introduce the Arcane Avengers, a reluctant group of sorcerers led by Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier. Cursed to defeat and imprison demonic yokai alongside teammates Bloodline and Wiccan, Bucky looks for opportunity to free himself and finally be free from his captor’s control. As a new wave of yokai incursion stretches the team’s resources, Bucky plots his escape, but the sudden reappearance of his former childhood friend, Hawkeye, throws all his plans into disarray in Marvel Mangaverse: Arcane Avengers #1, on sale September 16.

Bodies are lining the streets as Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, carves a bloody swathe through humans and yokai alike. Together with her Shinigami bike, Kwannon, aka Ghostlocke, aims the Spirit of Vengeance at Carnage in a bid to stop his twisted cataclysmic desires in Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke #1 from writer Alyssa Wong and Michael YG, in shops on September 23.

It all comes to a startling conclusion as Joe and Jack Kelly and artist Kenny Ruiz reunite in Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Destiny #1 to put Miles, Laura and Illyana at the center of the end of the world. Will these former friends be able to put aside their differences and save the planet before it burns to ash around them? The five-week Mangaverse 25th Anniversary event concludes in dramatic fashion on September 30.
