After landing in jail following a night of drunken revelry, Red Sonja hears an outlandish story from a fellow inmate. Deep in the mountains lies a dead city in a valley with no name. Abandoned and forgotten, its fields and streets are littered with the bones of two armies, all destroyed by a curse from a warlock who has long since vanished, along with his vast treasure — untold riches just waiting to be taken.

At least that is the legend. But Sonja’s cellmate Morgo has more than a diverting tale — he’s also got a map that says this legend could well be reality. All they need to do is break out of lockup and hit the road — which may be easier said than done!

Written by horror legend STEVE NILES (30 Days of Night) with stunning art by ALESSANDRO AMORUSO, Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned collects all five issues of the acclaimed miniseries, together with a complete cover gallery!

Crowdfunding Corner: Dynamite’s Vampirella: Black, White & Blood kicks off a new imprint Dynamite Originals

Backer Beware: Crowdfunding projects are not guaranteed to be delivered and/or delivered when promised. We always recommend to do your research before backing.

Dynamite has announced Dynamite Originals, a brand new imprint debuting first on Kickstarter with a heavy-hitting roster of creators taking on the company’s flagship character — Vampirella! This new label will feature unique visions and innovative collaborations with the biggest creators in comics of today and tomorrow. It all starts with Vampirella: Black, White & Blood live on Kickstarter now!

This prestige anthology project is a close collaboration with Arancia Studio, known for its juggernaut leader Mirka Andolfo. Some of the most exciting rising stars of the Italian studio join today’s biggest names in American comics on this star-studded special release. The whole book sports a stunning black-and-white palette, with splashes of red to really show off the artwork in these three tantalizing tales. It’s the ultimate spotlight on the character and an international team-up of the comics craft.

Andolfo leads the way with a fascinating fable with a meta twist. In “Redefining Shadows,” she and artist Greta Xella depict the most unlikely team-up for the Daughter of Drakulon. The story spotlights the Daughter of Drakulon as a guardian, her goals of retribution, her dreams, and judgment. Vampirella can be many things depending on the role one views her as within her story. But whoever you choose to be, hope you never become the object of her savage hunt!

In “Undercover” by Tim Seeley and Zulema Scotto Lavina the Drakulonian antiheroine is accused of a series of violent murders. To clear her name, she goes undercover, embedding herself in a gang of vicious vampire hunters. In her quest to track down the mystery killer and protect her own kind, she may discover the culprit could be someone close to her heart.

Last but certainly not least, “The Ballad of Blind Love” features the work of Steve Orlando and Alessandro Amoruso, and depicts a love story like no other. A powerful mob boss is desperately in love with Vampirella and will do anything to win her over. Misinterpreting her character and reactions, he starts bringing increasingly heinous sacrifices to garner her affection. It will take a dark turn when she demands of him the ultimate sacrifice…

Not to be outdone by the stories within, this project demanded a set of jaw-dropping covers by top names to deliver a perfect package to fans. Mirka Andolfo of course contributes one of course for the title she and her team are driving artistically. She’s joined by superstars Stjepan Šejić, Jae Lee, and Joseph Michael Linsner. Each of these covers will be available as standard covers, chrome editions, and metal editions, plus fans will have the option to get them signed or CGC graded. And there will be options to get all four covers bundled together for a special collector’s price.

As the She-Devil and her party close in on the dead city and its fabled treasure, disaster strikes when Luna goes missing. Lukas and Sonja don’t trust Grimore — the old man who joined them on the road — as far as they can throw him, and his explanation for Luna’s disappearance rings hollow. But in the absence of any hard evidence of malice, they decide to let him keep his head — a decision they may live (briefly) to regret!

The acclaimed creative team of writer STEVE NILES and artist ALESSANDRO AMORUSO set the stage for a bloody Hyborian showdown with Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned #4, featuring spellbinding covers from JOSHUA MIDDLETON, JOSEPH MICHAEL LINSNER, CELINA, and cosplay by RACHEL HOLLON!

Red Sonja and Steve Niles Take on the Undead!

The She-Devil With a Sword is slicing into a brand new title this April, pairing with legendary writer Steve Niles for the first time ever for an epic tale overflowing with the undead!

After landing in jail following a night of drunken revelry, a frequent Sonja specialty, the Hyrkanian heroine hears a shocking story from a fellow inmate. This is the first she’s heard of the infamous “Empire of the Damned,” a dead city hidden deep in a valley amidst the mountains. Long abandoned and forgotten, the city’s haunting streets are littered with the bones of two armies, locked in battle but obliterated by a warlock’s curse. The evil spellcaster is long gone too, but he may have left around his vast treasure or the clues to find it.

Sonja’s new pal Morgo claims that not only is this legend true, but he’s got a map and the drive for adventure. He’s just met a willing and fearsome companion for his quest. They just need to prioritize breaking out of lockup first! Fans will get to hang out with even more fun new characters in the series, like a powerful young witch named Luna.

Through his works, Niles is also known for often collaborating with artists of a similar wavelength, such as superstars Bernie Wrightson, Ben Templesmith, and Kelley Jones. The next to join that legacy of artists will be Alessandro Amoruso, set for his breakout story.

The team is joined on their quest by a party of top talents contributing covers. Joshua Middleton‘s gorgeous style mixes perfectly with the horror twist here. Joseph Michael Linsner, Philip Tan, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and a signature color bleed/negative space cover from John Tyler Christopher round out the set on the first issue.

Red Sonja: Empire of the Damned delivers monsters, magic, and mayhem in equal measure. It’s a can’t-miss chapter in the chronicles of the Hyborian Age!
