Tatsumi – A new game from the creators of Planet Unknown has launched on Gamefound.
Adam’s Apple Games is seeking funding on Gamefound for the perfect board game to wrap up the Year of the Dragon. Tatsumi is a competitive board game where players take the role of dragons collecting resources at sea to provide good fortune for their island. Beauty meets function with a unique “Trayboard” that acts both as a quick-setup storage tray and also as a central game board that facilitates positional resource drafting puzzle with your dragon. There are 100+ beautiful wooden rings to collect, stacked in the trayboard, and the transparent board allows strategic look ahead into the depths of the sea. Turns are both quick and satisfying and players will need to balance short term engine scoring with end game scoring bonuses. Tatsumi also boasts a solo mode great for learning the game and exploring the replayable player/island combinations.
Each game, players will pair together a dragon and an island. One side of each dragon and island is symmetrical to make teaching and learning easy. The other side of each dragon and island is asymmetrical allowing for 25+ unique combinations to explore. Each turn the player will perform a point-to-point movement Fly action and then choose one of three actions. The Gathering action allows players to gather up to 2 rings from the sea. The Scoring action allows a player in position to score rings placing them onto their island for poitns. The Shedscale action allows players to spend a scale resource and gain utility, points, or abilities for the rest of the game. Interaction between players is created through the positional resource draft of the seaboard, the shrine cards located on the edge of the seaboard, and the race to trigger an efficient game end.
Tatsumi has been in development for several years and has been play tested at ProtoSpiel Minnesota and Madison, Gen Con ‘22, ‘23, ‘24, and Essen Spiel ‘24. The Gamefound campaign will feature a Limited Edition of the game with several upgrades planned throughout the campaign. A scripted setup has been released on Tabletop Simulator for anyone to play and try the game.
