There’s been a slow move of creators moving away from crowdfunding platforms to their own with some finding success in the model and others not. BigBadToyStore has launched BigBadLaunchPad, a new dedicated hub that acts sort of like a crowdfunding platform.

BigBadLaunchPad combines collector participation with the convenience of shopping through BigBadToyStore. Instead of making a pledge to a creator, collectors place orders directly through BBTS. Unlike traditional crowdfunding, not every project on BigBadLaunchPad depends on funding to move forward. Depending on the project type, products may already be confirmed for launch, may expand through collector participation, or may require collector support to move forward.
There’s currently six projects on the platform including a Madman figure and “Prestige” The Tick, both have been “cleared to launch.” In the updates, there’s also information about mini comics that are part of the Masks and Martyrs: Black Jet and The Human Bullet project.
LEGO has revealed a new set, the Batmobile from Batman Returns. Launching September 1 to LEGO Insiders, the set will be released to the public on September 4. Retailing for $229.99, it features 2,269 pieces.
The set not only features the Batmobile, but also comes with a “distinctive” Batman minifigure and a stand featuring the movie’s name. But, since it’s from Batman Returns, you can also press a button to transform the Batmobile into the sleek Batmissile.
You can slide open the canopy to get a closer look at an intricate detailed replica of the cockpit featuring the steering wheel and control panels.
