Cape & Cowl Con, the free community comics convention hosted by Eisner Award-winning Cape & Cowl Comics, returns to Faction Brewing in Alameda on Sunday, August 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bringing together more than 150 artists, writers, comics publishers, retailers, and makers, the event celebrates comics, creativity, visual storytelling, and the joy of reading for fans of all ages. More than 5,000 people attended in 2025, with an even larger crowd expected this year.

Now in its fourth year, Cape & Cowl Con has grown into one of the Bay Area’s largest celebrations of comics and independent creators. Hosted by Oakland’s Cape & Cowl Comics, the convention reflects the shop’s ongoing commitment to supporting local artists, literacy, and the creative community.

The Artist Alley and Vendor Marketplace will feature local cartoonists, writers, artists, publishers, and makers, alongside community organizations including Oaklandish, the Alameda Free Library, and comic shops from throughout the Bay Area.

Special guests include award-winning and bestselling creators from around the country including Gene Luen Yang, Patrick Horvath, Pornsak Pichetshote, Mariko Tamaki, Tini Howard, Babs Tarr,and many more. Families can enjoy a dedicated Kids Area featuring games, art activities, and appearances by creators of popular children’s and young adult graphic novels, including Maggie Tokuda Hall, Briana Loewinsohn and the creative team behind The First Cat in Space, Shawn Harris and Mac Barnett.

New this year, Cape & Cowl Con will feature creator panels and live performances throughout the day, along with convention-exclusive comics, merchandise, and collectibles.

Returning for a second year at Faction Brewing, attendees can also enjoy local food trucks, brewery beverages (including non-alcoholic options), and outdoor seating overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
