Wicked shows it’s popular and conjures up a weekend box office win and beating Gladiator II in the arena

Wicked

In a weekend with two anticipated films, one was the clear winner, by a lot. Wicked took the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $114 million. The film also grossed $50.2 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $164.2 million. There’s a good chance the film will have another solid weekend with Thanksgiving coming up as it’s a film families can enjoy. But, it’s also possible the hardcore fans showed up the first weekend boosting the debut but possibly resulting in a crash. Still, those same hardcore fans will likely see the film multiple times, so there’s a good chance the movie experiences a solid second weekend.

In second place was Gladiator II. It grossed $55.5 million domestically and $165.5 million internationally, for a worldwide debut of $221 million. The original Gladiator debuted with $34.8 million in 2000 which would be about $63.8 million in today’s dollars. So, it’s better and also worse in a way.
