Keith Giffen has passed away

Another one of comics’ greats has passed away. Keith Giffen unfortunately is the latest of the legends to no longer be with his. Giffen died on Monday at the age of 70 and was confirmed today, new comic book day. He’s known working on a host of titles and is the co-creator of Lobo and Rocket Raccoon. The post below was on his Facebook profile today, announcing the news in a way that was him.

Giffen was born in Queens, New York in 1952. His first published work was in Marvel Preview #4 in 1976 with writer Bill Mantlo. Giffen and Mantlo would go on to create Rocket Raccoon who debuted in Marvel Preview #7.

He’d go on to work not just for Marvel, but Dark Horse, Image, First Comics, WildStorm, and Valiant.

His bibliography as a writer, plotter, and artist is wrong with titles such as Annihilation and it’s sequels and prologues, 52, Ambush Bug, Blue Beetle, DC vs. Masters of the Universe, Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn and its sequel, Justice League 3000, Legion of Super-Heroes, Lobo, Omega Men, The Defenders, Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos, Bloodstrike, Freak Force, SuperPatriot, Magnus, Robot Fighter, X-O Manowar, and so much more.

He’s also credited with screenwriting The Real Ghostbusters, Ed, Edd n Eddy, and Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.

He was awarded an Inkpot Award in 1991.
