Nia DaCosta has been tapped to direct Captain Marvel 2 according to Deadline. The announcement is not official.

The director is receiving lots of buzz due to the upcoming Candyman which she has directed and wrote the screenplay for. Her directing of Little Woods, which was critically praised, put her on the radar of Jordan Peele, who hand-picked her to direct Candyman.

Anna Bodn and Ryan Fleck directed the first film which went on to earn $426.8 million domestically, $701.4 million internationally, and $1.128 billion worldwide in 2019.

Megan McDonnell, who is a story editor on Marvel’s WandaVision has penned the script for the film which will see Brie Larson return in the starring role. The sequel is expected to be released in 2022.
