The Secret Life of Pets Opens with a Record and Dory Finds the Top
The Secret Life of Pets topped the box office with an impressive estimated $103.17 million. That’s a record opening for an original animated film. It’s the sxith animated film ever to open with more than $100 million. The film should also do well with an A- CinemaScore. The film also opened in nine territories and has an international total of $42.6 million.
The Legend of Tarzan opened in second barely beating out Finding Dory. The film earned $20.6 million. Finding Dory was third with $20.35 million. Tarzan did have a budget of $180 million so its opening is a bit iffy. The film did have a good word of mouth, so its possible it might have some legs. Finding Dory now stands domestically at $422.58 million making it the top grossing domestic film of the year so far.
In other new films, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates outperformed its expectations bringing in an estimated $16.6 million to come in fourth.
When it comes to comic book adaptations….
X-Men: Apocalypse added $390,000 to its domestic total which now stands at $154.5 million. The film has earned $528.2 million worldwide.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows added $325,000 to its domestic total which is currently $80.4 million and worldwide it’s $219.9 million.
Finally, Captain America: Civil War added $310,000 to its domestic total to bring that to $406.2 million. The film has earned $1.15 billion worldwide.
This coming weekend sees the release of the new Ghostbusters film which likely will top the box office.
