Whodunnit?, a new anthropomorphic murder mystery

Dark Horse Comics presents a fantasy detective thriller where each secret leads to more thrills, in an action-adventure comic filled with anthropomorphic characters. Writer El Torres is joined by artist Vicente Cifuentes and colorist Ulises Arreola to craft a compelling mystery for readers to solve in the graphic novel arriving in summer 2024: Whodunnit?

The patriarch of one of the wealthiest families in the country is found dead in the bedroom of his mansion. Every member of the entire family is a suspect! As each of their secrets is revealed and dark pasts come to light, the chief inspector is determined to find the killer. Get ready for Black Adam with the Justice Society Files

The hierarchy of power in the DC Extended Universe changes on October 21, as Warner Bros Pictures highly anticipated film Black Adam debuts exclusively in theaters.

After 5000 years of imprisonment, Black Adam is ready to impose his unique version of order on the modern world. The only thing standing in his way are the heroes of The Justice Society – Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Cyclone and Atom Smasher.

In the months leading to the films’ release, fans will want to learn all they can about these DC Super Heroes, as well as Teth-Adam, the man who becomes Black Adam, and DC will be on hand to provide that knowledge with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files.

Black Adam – The Justice Society Files are a series of one-shot comic books profiling the members of The Justice Society, their backgrounds, and connections to Black Adam, leading up to the movie. Each issue features a main story by writer Cavan Scott, plus a backup story by Bryan Q. Miller charting the path of Teth-Adam, from slave, to prisoner, to becoming the titular antihero.

The excitement kicks off Tuesday, July 5 with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Hawkman #1, on sale at comic book shops and participating digital retailers. Scott is joined by the all-star team of Scot Eaton (penciller), Norm Rapmund (inker) and Andrew Dalhouse (colorist) in this tale of Hawkman, an archeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince and the leader of the Justice Society. 

On August 2, Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 places DC’s human whirlwind center stage in a story by Cavan Scott, with art by Maria Laura Sanapo and Arif PriantoBlack Adam – The Justice Society Files: Atom Smasher #1 spotlights the size-changing powerhouse of The Justice Society on September 6, written by Scott with art by Travis Mercer and John Kalisz. The series of one-shots concludes October 4 with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Doctor Fate #1, in a story by Scott with art by Jesus Merino and Ulises Arreola.

In addition to breathtaking cover art by Kaare Andrews, each issue of Black Adam – The Justice Society Files features a photo variant cover of the actors portraying The Justice Society, in their fantastic movie costumes –Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone), Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), and Pierece Brosnan (Dr. Fate). Multiversity: Teen Justice#1 features covers by Robbi Rodriguez (main), Stephanie Hans (open-to-order variant), Bengal (1:25 variant), and Failla & Angiolini (1:50 variant), publishes on June 7. As a bonus feature, the team’s introduction story, “To Stop the Star-Conqueress” by Ivan Cohen, Eleonora Carlini, Ulises Arreola and Becca Carey from DC’s Very Merry Multiverse, will be reprinted in this new issue.

Scorched #6 Connecting Variant Cover Revealed

Todd McFarlane has revealed the Scorched #6 cover artwork, the final of the four connecting covers that pays homage to Jim Lee’s historic X-Men#1 covers. This marks the first time McFarlane has drawn a four-cover connecting artwork spread in his career. Scorched issues #3 through #6 connect to create one stunning piece of artwork commemorating Spawn’s 30th anniversary in 2022.

McFarlane’s Scorched #1, launched in January 2022, set the sales record for the “Biggest New Team Book” from the past 30 years. This supergroup of heroes and villains includes Spawn, Cy-Gor, Overtkil, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Haunt, Soul Crusher, Medieval Spawn, She-Spawn, and more fan-favorite characters waiting in the wings.

Joining Mcfarlane on this issue is writer Sean Lewis, artist Stephen Segovia, and colorist Ulises Arreola with lettering by AndWorld Design.

In addition to McFarlane’s cover, SCcorched #6 will offer two alternate covers, including a cover by Björn Barends and a magnificent Blank Black Sketch cover.

Bad Idea releases Spark #1 Honoring Ryan Bodenheim

The talented Ryan Bodenheim passed away far too young in December. A member of the Bad Idea family the publisher is breaking their rule of “no digital” by releasing a comic the publisher and Bodenheim were working on, Spark #1.

To celebrate Ryan’s life and talent, Bad Idea is releasing this in progress work digitally at a dedicated website. They’ll also be sharing memories of Bodenheim on their social media and encourage others to celebrate his life by doing the same.

Review: Slay Bells

Slay Bells might not be the most original story but it’s still really entertaining. Add in a B-side that’s just weird and high price point and this is one that’s good but debatable if it’s worth the price.
