Toys “R” Us to Carry Exclusive Sin City Movie Action Figures

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is headed to theaters, and the first assortment of Sin City Select action figures, based on the original 2005 feature film, is in stores now. Captured in the film’s trademark black-and-white, main characters Marv, Hartigan and Nancy each feature multiple points of articulation, multiple accessories and a detailed diorama base. And now Diamond Select Toys is proud to announce a pair of exclusive figures only available at Toys “R” Us!

For those who prefer their neo-noir in living color, Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Hartigan (Bruce Willis) are now a pair of full-color action figures in Toys “R” Us stores. Packaged in more streamlined packaging, with smaller street bases, Marv and Hartigan each include their unique accessories and the same high level of articulation. Both the black-and-white Select figures and color Toys “R” Us figures were sculpted by Jean St. Jean.

Check out some photos of the black-and-white figures, attached, and check back soon for info on the full-color figure of Jessica Alba’s Nancy, as well as Sin City Select Series 2!

Toy Stories – Monday May 15th, 2014

This is what I get for doing home renos for a few days and getting an early night. So many cool things happened. Let’s take a look at a few……

The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.........R.E.M.

The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be………R.E.M.

NECA announced their Series 3 of The Simpsons 25th Anniversary Guest Stars line of figures. This series features Penn & Teller, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Stephen King, Leonard Nimoy, and R.E.M. Series 3 should be hitting shelves sometime this June. At last my dreams of a Survivor Series match between the Bret Hart and The Who vs Xena and R.E.M. can become a reality. I have odd dreams.

dc

Looks like Shadow Thief was already chosen.

DC Collectibles unveiled a fan poll to determine which character from the New 52 will become a new action figure. Take a look at the poll over at DC Collectibles website and cast your vote. I’m torn between The Demon and Earth 2 Dr. Fate………..and have we seen that Hawkman before? Nope new figure to show off too!!!! Check out a nicer image and the evolution of the figure HERE. Gotta say, looks really nice!

90’s strike back.

And we have word on that mysterious X-Men Infinite Legends teaser from a few days ago. Looks like the series will be a Toys R Us exclusive arriving sometime this year. The series includes: Unmasked Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men Cyclops, X-Men Storm, Classic Magneto, and Stryfe. The B.A.F for series is Jubilee and a modern-ish costume. Wish she was in her 90’s gear or have a variant vampire head available. These look really nice, especially the Magneto, who was in desperate need of an update.

Petition Asks Toys ‘R’ Us to Stop Stereotyping Children

A new petition on Change.org is asking Toys ‘R’ Us to stop applying gender stereotypes in their catalogs and store displays. Started by Carolyn Danckaert of Washington, DC the petition recalls her experiences of dealing with gender stereotypes when trying to purchase toys for her four nieces. Danckaert has launched a website A Mighty Girl to help make some changes.

At A Mighty Girl, we believe that toy stores’ designation of toys as being for ‘boys’ or ‘girls’ is limiting and detrimental to all children. Such segregated play leads girls and boys to hone different skill sets from an early age; skills they build upon to determine the direction of their future schooling and later career path. These differences perpetuate the disparities still seen in the job market, particularly in women’s low representation in technical fields like engineering and computer science, which even further cements the gender-based wage gap. The number of children bullied because they wish to explore types of play that fall outside of these gendered ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ boxes also continues to rise.

The petition shows this advertisement as an example:

toysrus-smallAs you can see, in Toys ‘R’ Us’s world, only boys can play with science toys. As another example from the petition.

ldVruKhhsMxvaGE-556x313-noPadCooking labeled with pink and electronics with blue is again stereotyping, as if only women can cook and boys use electronics.

What’s interesting is the Swedish Toys ‘R’ Us catalog arms children with the ability to question outdated gender roles.

New AvX: Avengers vs. X-Men Minimates Box Set Coming Soon to Toys “R” Us

A few months ago, Diamond Select Toys asked fans to vote on the next exclusive box set of Marvel Minimates for Toys “R” Us, based on the blockbuster Avengers vs. X-Men crossover event. The poll pitted three Avengers against three members of the Phoenix Five, with dominance of the box set hanging in the balance. Well, now the results are in!

The Avengers were the clear winners, with Phoenix Buster Iron Man, the Scarlet Witch and Protector taking three of the four spots in the set, with the remaining slot filled by Phoenix Five leader Cyclops! Plus, Iron Man’s armor will open up to reveal a more bare-bones Iron Man Minimate inside! Phoenix Five Emma Frost and Colossus may not have made the cut this time around, but don’t count them out yet — they’ve both cheated death more than once.

Check out the figures below, and look for the set in Toys “R” Us stores this holiday season!

Heroclix Giant Size X-Men Toys “R” Us Exclusives

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids announced that there’s some exclusives heading to Toys “R” Us for their Heroclix Giant Size X-Men release.  Three new versions of some of the colossal figures will be hitting the store shelves starting May 15.

Heroclix Sentinel Mark VFrom the Wizkids website:

Playable at both the 150 and 300 point values, this version of the Sentinel Mark V is ready to capture and contain the mutant threat!  With consistent combat values and an array of offensive and defensive powers and abilities, your opponents will think twice before tangling with thisSentinel Mark V.

The Coordinated Assault trait is definitely an asset when the Mark V is played as part of a  larger force: the ability to make a free attack against an opposing figure is never to be underestimated! And be sure to also consider the Mark V’s Capture Coils special power when you’re building your force; re-positioning your opponent’s figures mid-battle via a successful ranged combat attack is extremely advantageous.

And let’s not forget the Indomitable ability!

Heroclix Sentinel Mark IIFrom the Wizkids website:

Like the Mark V above, the Sentinel Mark II can be played at two different point values, 100 and 300 points! The Sentinel Mark II has aggressive combat values and an array of great powers and abilities, as well as a slightly longer range (8 as opposed to the Mark V’s 7) with two targets.  Consider also the Indomitable ability and the future’s looking pretty grim for the opposition!

At both point values, the Mark II begins play with the Search and Destroy special power which enables it to not only use Outwit to counter powers on opposing figures, but to also increase its damage dealt with a successful attack by +1 for each action token on the Mark II’s target.

But that’s not all! The Sentinel Mark II also possesses the Coordinated Capture trait which allows it to assist whenever another friendly figure with the Robot keyword makes a successful attack.  If the target of that attack is within 8 squares and has no action tokens when it was attacked, the Mark II allows you to place an action token on that hit figure once actions resolve!

Heroclix ApocalypseFrom the Wizkids website:

At 300 points, Apocalypse is a force to be reckoned with! As you could probably anticipate, Apocalypse begins play protected by Impervious and his  Eternal Schemes trait provides some additional incentive for your opponents to not use their Outwit when this ancient mutant is around.  Eternal Schemes places an action token on any opposing figure within 4 squares that uses Outwit, even if they didn’t target Apocalypse himself!

Apocalypse also begins play with the Master Manipultor special power which allows him to use Shape Change and Telekinesis.  That’s not all though, becuase if Apocalypse uses Telekinesis to move an opposing figure and his (successful) attack roll is doubles, Master Manipulator also deals damage equal to Apocalypse’s damage value!

Apocalypse possesses a wide array of offensive powers to target his foes both near and from afar.  With two targets and 7 range, few figures will be able to hide from Apocalypse, and the Indomitable ability allows him to act without fer of pushing damage (so long as he doesn’t already have two tokens on him anyhow)! Mid- and end-dial Regenerate work to keep Apocalypse on the battlefield, while Impervious and Invulnerability absorb some (if not all!) of the damage dealt by your opponent’s figures.

You can find out the locations of some of the stores these are available at at the Wizkids website.
