I am preparing to make my debut as Raleigh’s first masked Crime-Fighter/Caped-Crusader/Masked Avenger/Protector of Truth and the Innocent, and am in need of a sidekick. Perhaps you have seen my post in the N&O regarding this position opening. I need someone who is available nights and weekends, and who can supply their own costume. I have a car that will be the crime fighting mobile, as yet to be named (that name depends upon the name I chose for my crime-fighting alter ego). It would be cool if you could help out with gas money sometimes, though, if I happen to be short here and there. Discretion is a must as no one must learn of our TRUE IDENTITIES! If they are compromised, so will be our crime-fighting efficacy. This is more of an unpaid internship type situation, so if you’re looking to get rich, this might not be for you. Although I would not be surprised if we are presented the KEY TO THE CITY soon after our criminal-foiling commences. If you’re looking to fight evil in all its forms and be a beacon of truth and justice, then you have come to the right place. Please send a resume to this post in response. All serious applicants considered. Finalists will be granted a masked “face-to-face” interview in my secret lair, after which, if you are hired, you will learn my TRUE IDENTITY. This is not a sexual thing, although I think we should wear fairly tight-fitting costumes, as we will be scaling fire escapes and leaping from rooftop to rooftop, and will have enough to deal with having capes, much less baggy shorts or something of the like. I should mention that my costume so far consists of a kelly green cape, so that color is taken. You should be encouraged, however, to know that you will be free to pick your own color scheme and costume. I only ask that it semi-compliment mine. I will not discriminate on basis of gender, religion, race, or anything like that- but if someone is pretty buff it is a no-brainer that they will move to the front of the line. I will consider a skinny or out-of-shape person with the right attitude, however, as wonders can be done with a little neoprene padding under lycra! I look forward to perusing your resumes, and all reasonable applicant replies will get a response from me, Raleigh’s Avenger of Justice and Freedom as yet to be named!

Award Winning HBO Documentary “Superheroes’ A Film By Michael Barnett To Screen At Comic Con Film Festival 2011!! And Will Premiere On HBO August 8

Official Press Release

AWARD WINNING  HBO “SUPERHEROES’ – A FILM BY MICHAEL BARNETT

WILL UNVEIL AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2011 ON JULY 23

AND IS SET FOR WORLD BROADCAST PREMIERE ON HBO

AUGUST 8, 2011 AT 9PM ET/PT

Forget the fictional comic books and their fancy high-budgeted adaptations.  Throughout the nation, real, true superheroes exist among us bravely battling crime and other contemporary maladies including homelessness and bullying.  SUPERHEROES  – a film by Michael Barnett chronicles the lives of these dedicated real people as they protect and support their own communities from New York to Seattle to San Diego to Orlando.  They patrol the dark and dangerous streets of their cities, seeking out criminals, evildoers and villains.

A 2011 Slamdance Film Festival winner, SUPERHEROES goes deep inside the world of real-life caped crusaders.  From all over America, these everyday citizens don masks, homemade costumes and elaborate utility belts in an attempt to bring justice to evildoers everywhere.

Meet the Superheroes:

  • Mr. Xtreme: Evildoers Beware!  Mr. Xtreme is a man of conviction and purpose with a loathing of apathy and indifference, he sets out on nightly patrols to deter violent crime before it occurs.  An imposing figure of neon and camouflage, Mr. Xtreme will stop at nothing to protect his community from the villains and goons that reap crime and fear throughout greater San Diego.
  • Zimmer (The New York Initiative): Super is as super does.  Which for Zimmer means living his most authentic self.  Young and restless  and “out” and proud in the best, most productive sense, his work combines his deep interest in technology and computer science, with his impassioned sense of justice that leads him to patrols on the meaner streets of his adopted home in Brooklyn, NY.
  • Dark Guardian: In the shadow world of street drug peddlers, Dark Guardian stands alone as a beacon of light.  Seemingly unafraid, he heads out to parks where drugs are being sold in plain sight of passersby and children, and does everything within his power to drive those dealers out of the park—hopefully never to return.  New York based.
  • Life: He didn’t grow up with much, but that didn’t stop him from giving to others.  He is Life, tirelessly and selflessly working on behalf of Manhattan’s homeless population.  Minimally costumed in a mask and tie-and-jacket, he sets out every day, delivering the smaller necessities of a life lived on the streets in a large metropolis.  Raised in the Jewish tradition of leaving the world a better place than the way he found it, he was imbued at an early age with strong values of charity, courtesy and kindness.
  • And Many more…

SUPERHEROES will be available for all to experience when it has its world broadcast premiere on HBO on August 8 at 9PM ET/PT as part of the HBO summer documentary series.  For more information on the film, please go to the film’s website:  http://www.superheroesthemovie.com
