SDCC 2015: Invader Zim Set to Invade July 8th

Oni Press is set to launch the first issue of the sure-to-be hit Invader Zim comic series next week on Wednesday, July 8th. The comic will launch with a number of activities at San Diego Comic-Con and several alternate covers from fan-favorite artists.

Invader Zim #1 will arrive in stores next Wednesday, July 8th, just in time to make San Diego Comic-Con a major event for Invader Zim fans. Oni Press will host a panel, The Return of Invader Zim, Saturday 7/11 at 2 pm in Room 29AB that features original creator Jhonen Vasquez, original show staff and creative staff on the new Zim comic Aaron Alexovich, original show writer and comic staff Eric Trueheart, Inker on the new Invader Zim comic Megan Lawton, and Oni Press Editor-in-Chief James Lucas Jones. Questions for the panel will be accepted via responses to a specific message on Oni Press’ Twitter in the week leading up to Comic-Con, with those whose questions are selected winning a copy of Invader Zim #1. Invader Zim cosplayers visiting Oni Press’ booth (#1833) at SDCC will also receive Invader Zim #1. Bryan Konietzko has produced a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive cover for the first issue that will be available exclusively at Oni Press’ SDCC booth. SDCC 2015: Mondo Brings Ant-Man, Superman, TMNT & More to the Show

Mondo has released a sneak peek at its offerings for San Diego Comic-Con 2015, featuring the best in artist-driven collectibles for characters, films and comics. This year, more than ever, Mondo is showing off a wide variety of products from an amazing team of designers and world-class artists. Below is a small sampling of the posters, vinyl and collectible figures that will be on hand at their booth #835.

POSTERS

Here’s a first look at the Ant-Man screen print from artist Kevin Tong. “In designing the poster, I wanted to show Ant-Man’s scale, the intensity of his transformation, and really just trying to make a poster as fun and dynamic as the movie,” said Tong.

The poster is printed on holofoil, a unique reflective surface, adding a dynamic element to the print. The regular version of the poster will be on sale at a future date via Mondo’s official site. Mondo will be releasing a diverse selection of posters throughout the convention, including the debut of an awesome new license.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1/6 Scale Figures

Just last year Mondo announced that they were making a big step into the world of high-end collectible figures. At this year’s Comic-Con Mondo continues that promise to deliver jaw-dropping figures with a first look at its line of 1/6 scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Leonardo is the first in a series of 1/6 scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figures, inspired by the original Eastman & Laird comic book from the 1980s. Standing approximately 11 inches in height, and featuring 25+ points of articulation, Leonardo includes interchangeable hands, multiple accessories, and a choice of the classic red mask from the comics, or the famous blue mask from the cartoon series! All four turtles will be on display at Mondo’s booth. (Price TBD)

First Hellboy Statue

In 1991, comic artist & writer Mike Mignola did a black & white illustration at a comic convention of a demon character that bore the name “Hellboy” on his belt. This was the genesis of the filed-horned fighter of the supernatural known and loved today. Mondo is excited to bring the original concept to life with a 12″ polystone statue showcasing all the strange and fun details of the original drawing. In addition to all the sculpted details, original Hellboycolorist Dave Stewart was enlisted to design the color scheme for the piece. Aliens – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

The Academy Award-nominated score for Aliens is an appropriate musical companion to this wildly successful sequel. Much like the film, the soundtrack is a departure from the original, but equally beloved. Composer James Horner took the reigns from Jerry Goldsmith and made something his own: blending the suspense and horror that the franchise is known for, with an element of fun that is unique to this entry.

This deluxe edition soundtrack features over a dozen cues that have never before been released on vinyl, including 5 bonus tracks. Commenting on the design, artist Killian Eng said, “I wanted the alien to play a big role but at the same time incorporate its shape into the materials of the space station, almost like it becomes the station itself, keeping the marines in a steady merciless grip.”

Superman: The Animated Series – Die-Cut Single

Mondo is thrilled to announce the Superman: The Animated Series Die-Cut single featuring the character’s iconic emblem cut in the shape of the Man of Steel’s “S” in classic red vinyl or Kryptonite green vinyl. Commenting on the artwork, Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative said, “I wanted to make this a companion piece to my packaging design for Batman: The Animated Series. While Batman is darker and more serious, Superman needed to be bright, colorful and energetic to reflect the tonal differences between the two.”

The single features the theme music of the inimitable Shirley Walker, whose leadership on this and Batman: The Animated Series set the standard for the music of the DC Animated universe for decades to come. This release is an essential companion piece to last year’s Batman: The Animated Series Die-Cut Single.

SDCC 2015: BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands Announce New Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Comics

It’s Morphin Time! BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands have announced a partnership to produce new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics, starting with a set of six exclusive, one-page comics that will debut at San Diego Comic-Con in July. The comics will be based on Saban’s iconic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series.

Premiering in 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a live-action children’s television series about a group of ordinary teenagers who “morphed” into superheroes to save the world from evil. Each Ranger was identifiable by their individual Ranger colors: Jason the Red Ranger, Zack the Black Ranger, Trini the Yellow Ranger, Billy the Blue Ranger, and Kimberly the Pink Ranger. A sixth member, Tommy the Green Ranger, joined later in the series. Since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted, Saban’s Power Rangers series has continued airing, now in its 22nd season, Power Rangers Dino Charge. BOOM!’s comic series will focus exclusively on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and appeal especially to those super fans who grew up watching the show in the ‘90s.

The initiative kicks off July 8th at San Diego Comic-Con, where BOOM! Studios will be exhibiting at booth #2229. The publisher will have an assortment of six double-sided, one-page comics in blind bag packaging available for sale. Each comic will focus on one Power Ranger and feature a pin-up image by Spectrum-nominated artist Goñi Montes on one side, and a one-page comic written by Mairghread Scott and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss on the other side. The six comics are designed to be read as individual parts or can be stitched together to form one full story.

SDCC 2015: Action Lab’s Exclusives

Action Lab Entertainment is heading to San Diego Comic-Con, and the company has announced their expansive line of limited edition show exclusives.

Action Lab Entertainment, and its sister imprint Action Lab: Danger Zone will have items for fans of all ages. Limited variant editions of Princeless: The Pirate Princess, and The Adventures of Aero Girl #1 will be on sale. Action Lab will also have official CCI: 2015 premiere editions of their newest series’ Archon #1 by John J. Perez and Marco Maccagni, Dave Dwonch and Anna Lencioni’s Cyrsu Perkins and the Haunted Taxicab: Road Trip Edition, and the all-ages fantasy series Awake #1 by Susan Beneville and Bryan Hess featuring both a limited edition cover and a limited sketch cover.

Along with these wonderful new titles Action Lab: Danger Zone will debut Eisner nominated artist M. (Mia) Goodwin’s Tomboy #1, “Zombi-Con exclusives” of Dan Mendoza’s Zombie Tramp #13, celebrating that character’s anniversary as well as a limited edition sketch cover of Zombie Tramp Vs. Vampblade #1. Action Lab will also have a limited edition of the premiere issue of the sequel to last year’s critically acclaimed series HOLY F*CK, Holy F*cked. SDCC 2015: Titan Comics Reveals Heroes SDCC Ashcan!

Titan Comics has revealed that fans of Heroes will be able to get their first taste of the upcoming new comic series from Titan with a special SDCC ashcan, which comes with a cover by New York Times bestselling and Eisner Award winning artist, Paul Pope!

The comic series – based on NBC’s upcoming event series Heroes Reborn premiering this fall – hits stores October 2015 and begins with a sensational five-story arc featuring the origins of one of the series’ new main characters. The comic series will be written by Heroes Reborn Supervising Producer Seamus Fahey and Zach Craley and illustrated by Rubine.

The Heroes SDCC ashcan provides an exciting introduction to the new show plus amazing previews of Titan’s Heroes comic and magazine! The Ashcan features 6 black and white preview pages from the first issue of the comic. There is also a 6-page preview feature from the magazine with Titan’s access-all-areas set report – including an exclusive interview with show creator Tim Kring. All this, plus cover art by Paul Pope!

Heroes Reborn Supervising Producer Seamus Fahey will give fans a sneak peek at the new Heroes comic series at the Titan Comics panel on Thursday July 9 at 2:30PM (Room 4) and will be signing copies of this special ashcan on Friday July 10 at 12:00PM at the Titan Booth #5537.
