Kelly Sue DeConnick and David López return to creator-owned comics with FML

Dark Horse Comics presents FML, a surreal coming-of-age single-issue series from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and illustrator David López. Colorist Cris Peter and letterer Clayton Cowles round out the creative team for the eight-issue series.

FML #1 arrives on November 6, 2024 with main cover art by David López and variant covers featuring artwork by Alvaro Martinez Bueno, David LaFuente, Nicola Scott (1:10 incentive variant), and Pepe Larraz (1:25 incentive variant). One additional variant cover will be revealed at a later date. Each issue will feature bonus material such as essays on music, true crime, interviews, and more that will be exclusive only to the single issues.

Riley is a 16-year-old heavy metal kid who draws down his anxiety with a ballpoint pen. His mother is an aging punk cartoonist slam dancing with a true crime obsession. Bound by threads of magical realism, they navigate the absurdities and horrors of our modern lives.

Issue one introduces Riley’s daily life: terrorism diaries, school shooter drills, and social pressures under the constant shadow of encroaching wildfires that rain ash like a morbid snow. His refuge? The Forest Park Witch’s House, where tales of chaos magic and trickster gods promise some semblance of sense in a senseless world.

DC Comics reveals Nicola Scott Artist Spotlight Variant Covers for September

Coming to your local book comic shop this September, DC will publish a set of Nicola Scott Artist Spotlight variant covers depicting DC’s characters “Through The Ages”! Spotlighting solo characters in their various costumes from multiple decades of publication, and “Class Photo” looks where multiple Super Heroes have worn the mantle, all-star artist Nicola Scott delivers the history and evolution of DC’s Super Heroes with each bespoke cover.

From multiple Green Lanterns and Flashes to every costume Catwoman, Black Canary and Zatanna have worn, and more, look for Nicola Scott Artist Spotlight variant covers on Action Comics #1069, Batman #152, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #31, Birds of Prey #13, Catwoman #48, Green Lantern #15, Harley Quinn #43, Nightwing #118, Superman #18, The Flash #13, Wonder Woman #13, and Zatanna: Bring Down The House #4.

The artwork for three of September’s Nicola Scott Artist Spotlight Variant covers exclusively debuted with Kings Comics, winner of the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award and Australia’s most well-known comic book and pop culture specialty store. These “Through The Ages” covers first appeared on Action Comics #1000, Detective Comics #1000, and Wonder Woman #750 and will now be included in this new Artist Spotlight series. Scott then turned her attention to DC’s Green Lantern Corps for a Green Lantern 80th Anniversary 100 Page Super Spectacular #1 variant cover featuring the Green Lantern Corps from the 1940s onwards, showcasing John Stewart, Alan Scott, Hal Jordan, Abin Sur, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, Simon Baz, Keli “Teen Lantern” Quintela, Sinestro, and Jessica Cruz. Scott’s Nightwing cover has never been published but was made a fan-favorite image online by cheekily showcasing Dick Grayson’s evolution from Robin to Nightwing in DC’s comics, and the seven new covers expand the line to include Aquaman, Black Canary, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl, The Flash and Zatanna.

From the fall of the House of Brainiac to the countdown to Absolute Power, it’s a packed June for Superman

Superman, Lobo, and the Superman family take a stand against Brainiac and the Brainiac Queen in the finale to “House of Brainiac.” That leads into the anticipated summer event, Absolute Power.

It’s all hands on deck in Action Comics #1066! Brainiac has created his masterpiece, and all bets are off as Superman and his teammates bear witness to a cosmic horror unlike anything they’ve ever seen! And after learning the true history of Brainiac, Lobo will have to choose what side he is on before all hell breaks loose!

On sale June 18, part five of “House of Brainiac” is written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Rafa Sandoval, who also provides art for the issue’s main cover. Action Comics #1066 also features variant cover art by Jorge Jiménez, Paolo Rivera, and Mark Spears, plus a Pride Month variant spotlighting Steel (Natasha Irons) by Betsy Cola.

On June 25 the story reaches its climax in Superman #15, also written by Williamson with art by Sandoval. Superman is allied with Lex Luthor, and together they’ve figured out how to stop Brainiac and his queen, but it will take a great sacrifice. The Man of Steel and one of his greatest enemies will have to do the unthinkable to save their family and friends. This all leads directly into DC’s blockbuster summer event, Absolute Power.

Superman #15 features a main cover by Rafa Sandoval, plus variant covers by Stjepan Šejić, Joshua “Sway” Swaby, Danny Earls, and Miguel Mercado, plus a Pride Month variant featuring Jon Kent by Angel Solorzano.

Brainiac’s bid for total control continues to impact other DC Super Heroes. In June 11’s Green Lantern #12, Guy Gardner’s bogus Lobo adventure gets even crazier, courtesy of series writer Jeremy Adams, with art by Xermánico and Kevin Maguire. Xermánico also provides the main cover, with variants by Evan “Doc” Shaner, Gleb Melnikov, and Keron Grant. On June 25, writer Leah Williams and artists Eduardo Pansica and Júlio Ferreira team up Power Girl and Crush with the Holliday Girls in a last-ditch effort to take down Goblin and his goons, take back their neighborhood, and shut down the Czarnian threat on Earth once and for all. Power Girl #10 features main cover art by Yanick Paquette, with variant covers by Nicola Scott and Daxiong.

Beast Boy and the team come to the rescue in new DC comic book event ‘Titans: Beast World’

Clawing its way out of the pages of Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott’s Titans “Dawn of DC” comic book series comes an unprecedented threat to the DC Universe, an intergalactic Sea Star—a conqueror like Starro, but one that is far more frightening. Superman, Wonder Woman, Starfire—all are powerless to stop The Necrostar from ending all life on Earth. And the only Super Hero who can save the world is…Beast Boy?!

With Nightwing, Raven, Cyborg and the Titans beside him, can Garfield Logan rise to battle an ancient evil? Or is he doomed to become the greatest threat to the DC Universe? What will Amanda Waller do to take advantage of the situation as millions of people are changed into rampaging creatures? And can humanity survive all-powerful Super Heroes and Super-Villains transformed into ferocious beasts?

DC proudly presents the first Titans comic book crossover event, “Beast World,” featuring the brand-new series, Titans: Beast World, brought to you by the all-star creative team of writer Tom Taylor and artist Ivan Reis. This epic event, which continues into January 2024, sets the stage for what’s to come for the DC Universe! Part of the “Dawn of DC” storytelling initiative, “Beast World” will also connect into Tom Taylor’s ongoing series Titans and Nightwing.

“Beast World” will kick off with October’s Tales of the Titans #4 (on sale 10/24/23), written by Andrew Constant with art by Brandt & Stein, featuring everyone’s favorite shapeshifter, Beast Boy, as he deals with his own crisis.

Beast Boy barely survived the events of Dark Crisis, suffering a brutal attack from Deathstroke and losing an eye in the process. With his confidence weakened, he’s been unable to hold the shape of the large and mighty animals that define him as a Super Hero. But when a scientist with nothing to lose needs Beast Boy’s powers for terrifying ends, Gar will have to face what truly makes him special…and save his own life in the process!

As the Titans rally together in the pages of Titans: Beast World to prepare to fight the intergalactic beast, The Necrostar, Starfire discovers how it was first defeated by the Tamaraneans of the past: it was beaten by Starro. Luckily, the Titans have a warrior that can take the shape and match the powers of a world-conqueror like Starro—Beast Boy!

So Starro Beast Boy becomes a world conqueror, and DC’s Titans lose their shape-changing teammate in the process. Titans: Beast World will tell his story—and the story of the Titans fighting to bring him back from the abyss—beginning in November 2023.

And what does all of this have to do with Amanda Waller? The threat Beast Boy poses will further Amanda Waller’s crusade against metahumans and her anti-alien alliance…by any means necessary. As Waller looks for ways to take Starro Beast Boy down, she will form a cautious understanding with none other than Lex Luthor—as an expert in dealing with alien threats.

Stay tuned for more information about the “Beast World” crossover event and comic book schedule coming soon!
