R.L. Stine’s Just Beyond Goes from Comics to Disney+

Disney+ has ordered the 8-episode series Just Beyond from writer Seth Grahame-Smith and produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The horror/comedy anthology is based on the best-selling BOOM! Studios graphic novel series from iconic children’s writer R.L. Stine and artists Kelly and Nichole Matthews. Grahame-Smith has a history of moving between horror and comedy as author of the bestselling novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and screenwriter of Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, The Lego Batman Movie and The Saint for director Dexter Fletcher and star Chris Pine.

A writers room is being assembled and the series is expected to come to Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg’s KatzSmith will produce through their KatzSmith Productions and are represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.

BOOM! Studios has announced Just Beyond: The Horror at Happy Landings, a brand new graphic novel in the highly anticipated middle grade horror series from R.L. Stine, the award-winning, bestselling author of Goosebumps and Fear Street, artists Kelly and Nichole Matthews and featuring a cover by Julian Totino Tedesco, in stores May 2020. This new original graphic novel takes readers to the supposedly serene camping grounds of the forest preserve at Happy Landings where things take a decidedly terrifying turn when the Walden family encounters a pair of body-snatching aliens.

Family camping trips are supposed to be fun, but for the Walden family, they’re an absolute nightmare! After a creepy, unidentified bird attacks their mom in the forest, Parker and Annie find themselves face to face with two strange creatures that suddenly enter the kids’ brains and take control of their bodies. Can Parker and Annie break loose of this horrific control and convince their family of what’s happening, or will the creatures take over their lives for good?

A First Look at R.L.Stine’s Just Beyond: The Scare School from BOOM! Studios

BOOM! Studios has released a first look at Just Beyond: The Scare School, the first in a series of all-new original graphic novels debuting September 4, 2019 from R.L. Stine, the award-winning, bestselling horror author and creator of Goosebumps and Fear Street, artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews and featuring a cover by Julian Totino Tedesco. This middle grade supernatural horror series takes young readers Just Beyond the reality they know…Just Beyond their normal lives…Just Beyond the real world to an always-surprising place of fantasy and fright.

Just Beyond will be published through the company’s award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, marking the first time R.L. Stine has originated new concepts in the comic book medium as part of his multi-book agreement with the publisher.

In Just Beyond: The Scare School, the first original graphic novel in the series, something’s not quite right as we meet three 12-year-olds in strangely old-fashioned clothing creeping through the halls of Scare Middle School and trying to blend in with the present-day students while evading a menacing cyborg creature, the Drogg. Where did they come from? And why is this scary mechanical monster hunting them down? Thrust into the middle of this terrifying mystery are three modern day students, Josh, Jess, and Marco, who end up fighting for their lives while trying to escape the very nightmare that the three kids in old-fashioned dress were fleeing from, a school of horrors that exists JUST BEYOND their very own.
