Codename: Action from Dynamite unites Captain Action with Green Hornet, Kato and More!

Posted on by

Dynamite Entertainment is teaming up with Captain Action Enterprises for the September launch of Codename: Action. Thesix-issue comic book event unites Captain Action, with classic pulp heroes including Green Hornet, Kato, the Spider, and Black Venus.  Written by Chris Roberson and featuring artwork by Jonathan Lau , the debut issues will include variant covers by accomplished illustrators Jae Lee, Francesco Francavilla, Jonathan Lau, Johnny Desjardins, and Art Baltazar.

Codename: Action takes place during the Cold War, as unknown forces scheme to heat up the global conflict.  When key officials on both sides of the Iron Curtain are replaced with doppelgangers, the infiltration threatens to disrupt the precarious state of world affairs… until one young secret agent shapes the world’s masked heroes into a force with singular purpose and unyielding resolve!

Codename: Action #1 is solicited in the Diamond July Previews catalog for release in September.  Dynamite has welcomed a talented pool of artists, including award winners and fan-favorites, to provide a selection of cover variants for readers to enjoy.  Shipping to retailers in an equal ratio of cover variants, Codename: Action #1 features five covers, one each from Jae Lee, Francesco Francavilla, Jonathan Lau, and Johnny Desjardins, plus a special “Captain Action Spy Cover” design edition.  Dynamite will also produce a sixth, Subscription-Only “Cute” variant featuring artwork by Art Balthazar, limited only to retailer initial orders as a reward for dedicated Dynamite fans.

Vampirella Hunts Ancient Evil in the Deep South

Posted on by

By popular demand, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to expand their beloved Vampirella line with a new five-part miniseries, entitled Vampirella: Southern Gothic.  A tale of dark magic and mystery set against a Mississippi backdrop, the series features the writing talent of Nate Cosby and illustrations by Jose Luis.  The first issue will hit store shelves in August 2013, available in two cover editions: an art edition by Johnny Desjardins, and Subscription-Only photo variant featuring model Kitana Baker.

In Vampirella: Southern Gothic #1, the industry’s most iconic horror heroine may not be prepared — even after a lifetime of fighting vampires, aliens, magicians, and monsters — for the evil that lurks on the shores of the Mississippi.  As the story begins, Vampirella confronts a demon whose blue blade leaves her with a glowing, mystical wound.  Heading to the Deep South to recover, she is reunited with an old flame… and finds herself drawn into a murder mystery thick with old time religion and blood, blood, blood.

While the Southern Gothic series stands on its own, completely accessible to new readers, Cosby assures that the tale will fit faithfully into the overall Vampirella mythos, as pioneered by many of the industry’s top talent.

Vampirella: Southern Gothic #1 is solicited in the Diamond June Previews catalog for release in August.

To understand the ways of the fallen angels, Vampirella must seek out the assistance of Janus, a former soldier in the legion of Heaven, who walks the line between the damned and divine. But someone would rather the pair never meet, as a horde of street people—under the influence of a deadly new, body-twisting drug made from the blood of an Archangel—are sent to deal with them. Vampirella’s mission for Heaven could be over before it’s even begun.

Silver Star is the story of Morgan Miller, the first bio-engineered superhuman. Tasked with finding the “Others,” Silver Star put together a rag-tag family of powerful individuals in a newly post-superhuman world. Thirty years ago the king of comics, Jack Kirby, created, wrote, and drew the adventures of “homo-geneticus” and what an all-powerful  superhuman meant to war, society, and death. This story is the continuing adventures of the most powerful man on the planet and what he’s been up to for thirty years. He’s been busy! The story starts out with Silver Star fending off a giant monster attack in the Pacific Ocean, and his superhuman girlfriend Norma Richmond walking out on him. From there the story spirals into an international conspiracy of power players in governments and religions and science trying to take over the world. Silver Star has to do battle with a superpowered group of “animus-geneticus” called the Iron Grid. These bio-engineered animals lead to a bigger battle with the godlike Firewielders! Silver Star gets blasted into an alternate universe where everyone has superpowers, and finally returns to Earth when his most trusted ally is turned against him. Can Silver Star save the world and save his humanity in the process?
