NYCC 2019: Captain Marvel’s Star Gets a Miniseries from Kelly Thompson this January

Star, an exciting addition to Marvel Comics’ legendary lineup of super heroes, will have her very own limited series this January. Announced at the NYCC Retailer Panel, the breakout character from the pages of Captain Marvel will be starring in her own adventure, written by current Captain Marvel scribe and Star’s creator, Kelly Thompson! Star had her first appearance this past July in Captain Marvel #8 and the mystery surrounding her identity combined with a stunning character design from artist Carmen Carnero had readers clamoring to learn more about who she was!

Ambitious reporter Ripley Ryan was one of the victims caught up in Nuclear Man’s apocalyptic schemes and later became the hero STAR, adored by everyone. But in truth she was Dr. Minerva’s attempt at a Kree-human Super-Soldier. Desperate for the power and strength to control her own destiny, she tried to kill Captain Marvel — and failed. Ripley was left, defeated and powerless, in the Raft. But something strange has happened, and Star now finds herself more powerful than ever before. And no one in the Marvel Universe is prepared for what it means.

Star #1 (of 5) is out this January from writer Kelly Thompson and an artist to be named later. The main cover is from Carmen Carnero and a variant by Jeehyung Lee.

DC Announces The Batman’s Grave from Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch

Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch reunite this fall for The Batman’s Grave, a twelve-issue monthly DC maxi-series about life, death and the questions most are too afraid to ask. The team that brought us The Authority now turn their talents towards The World’s Greatest Detective, whose current case forces him to inhabit the mind of a murder victim with a half-eaten face—without filling the empty grave next to those of his parents.

But first, Ellis and Hitch get into the mind of a butler. Once a week, rain or shine, Alfred Pennyworth walks to a little cemetery plot in the Wayne Manor grounds. He meticulously tends to Thomas and Martha’s headstones, plinths and slabs: weeding, cleaning, polishing. But how much longer before there’s another Wayne memorial to tend to?

Within this dynamic duo’s new comic lives a Batman with an almost psychotic identification with murder victims. He immerses himself in their lives and obsesses over every detail of their deaths. Even as Batman would process the evidence and approach the perpetrator from one side, he would live inside the life of the victim as they approached their death.

The Batman’s Grave #1, written by Warren Ellis with art by Bryan Hitch and Kevin Nowlan, debuts in comic book stores and online retailers on Wednesday, October 9 with a cover by Hitch and a variant cover by JeeHyung Lee.
