At D23, it was revealed that Black Panther 2 has a debut date. The film will come to theaters on May 6, 2022. It was also revealed that Ryan Coogler will return to direct the film.
It’s too early for the title of the film to be revealed though so keep speculating and spinning those rumors.
As expected, at D23 The Mandalorian debuted its first trailer.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian debuts November 12 on Disney+.
Announced at D23, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new original series to air on Disney+.
The series will film next year and the scripts are complete.
At D23, Marvel has released the first look at season 7 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the final season of the series.
We knew there’d be some announcements at D23 and Marvel brought the goods with three new series for the streaming service. Marvel Studios has announced television shows based on Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. All three are known to have been in the works or have been mentioned by Marvel Studios honcho Kevin Feige.
What is new is interesting is that some of these shows were assumed to be movies, Ms. Marvel especially. Moon Knight and She-Hulk were both rumored to be in the running for shows on Netflix before that deal went south.
British writer Bisha K. Ali has been tapped for Ms. Marvel to write and act as showrunner. It is assumed the series will star Kamala Khan, an Inhuman who took on the mantle from her idol Carol Danvers (though in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Danvers has never gone by Ms. Marvel.
She-Fulk first appeared in Savage She-Hulk #1 and was created by Stan Lee and John Buscema. Jennifer Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner and in the comics gained her powers due to a blood transfusion. She’s also a lawyer balancing her life as a lawyer and superhero.
Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin and debuts in Werewolf by Night #32 in 1975. Marc Spector is a former Marine turned mercenary and near death is offered a chance at life if he becomes the god Khonshu’s avatar on Earth. What’s notable is Spector is Jewish, the son of a rabbi.
Kamala Khan is the newest of the three characters debuting in Captain Marvel #14 in 2013. Created by Sana Amanat, G. Willow Wilson, and Adrian Alphona, the character is a New Jersey Muslim teenager who’s also Inhuman and gains her powers after Terrigen Mist is unleashed around the world.
These shows are all under the Marvel Studios banner showing the expansion of the power and reach of that arm of Marvel and its head Kevin Feige.
These shows are in addition to the already announced The Falcon and Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, and Hawkeye which will all debut beginning in late 2020 and throughout 2021.
In other Marvel Studios news, Kit Harrington is rumored to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Wyatt Russell will join The Falcon and Winter Solider as John F. Walker, aka U.S. Agent.
Coming to Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland Paris “Avengers Campus” has been revealed at D23. While it was known each would get a Marvel-themed area, the name had not yet been announced. Hong Kong Disneyland had been also announced initially as getting this new themed section but was absent from the announcement. It’s possible the name might be different for that park.
Guests will be part of an immersive story that’s interconnected globally across the various parks.
It’s expected to open in 2020 in California.
A video has been released for D23 overviewing all of Disney’s parks including some information about this new expansion.

Marvel comic book artist Jack Kirby was posthumously presented with the Disney Legend award during D23 Expo 2017 in Anaheim, California. Watch this loving tribute for the greatest comic creator of all time.
This July, Jack Kirby will be honored for his remarkable creative achievements as a Disney Legend in a ceremony to be held at D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. Hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the Disney Legends Award ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, in Hall D23 during D23 Expo 2017.
Jack Kirby first grabbed attention in the spring of 1941 with Captain America, a character he created with Joe Simon. Kirby then followed this debut with a prolific output of comic books in the Western, Romance, and Monster genres–all a prelude to his defining work helping to create the foundations of the Marvel Universe. For the next decade, Kirby and co-creator Stan Lee would introduce a mind-boggling array of new characters and teams — including the Avengers, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Inhumans. Kirby was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame’s 1987 inaugural class and continued creating comics throughout the ’90s before passing away in 1994.
Other honorees of this year’s Legends Award are Carrie Fisher, Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi, Manuel Gonzales, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Garry Marshall, Julie Taymor, and Oprah Winfrey.
