SDCC 2023: The Savage Sword of Conan returns in 2024 as Conan #1 sells over 80,000

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Titan Comics and Heroic Signatures have revealed the long-awaited return of The Savage Sword of Conan in 2024 – with all-new gritty and gruesome tales from the world of Conan the Barbarian; presented in its original black-and-white, magazine-sized format.  

Originally published in 1974, The Savage Sword of Conan featured Robert E. Howard’s iconic Conan the Barbarian untethered from the bounds of the restrictive Comics Code Authority. A darker and more mature title than the flagship Conan the Barbarian comics, The Savage Sword of Conan delved into more gritty and bloody storylines and art, quickly becoming a cult classic publication. The Savage Sword of Conan featured writing and art from legendary creators such as Roy Thomas, Neal Adams, Barry Windsor-Smith, John Buscema, Walter Simonson and much more.

Launching in comic shops in 2024 during the 50 year anniversary celebration, the brand-new The Savage Sword of Conan magazine will be written and drawn in its original black-and-white style by a murderers row of writers and artists including John Arcudi, Frank Tieri, Patch Zircher, Howard Chaykin, Rafael Kayanan, Cary Nord, Rebeca Puebla, Dan Panosian, Richard Pace, Gerardo Zaffino, and many more!

Heroic Signatures and Titan Comics new Savage Sword of Conan joins the new ongoing Conan the Barbarian comic series written by Jim Zub, with art by Roberto De La Torre, as well as the continuing archival publishing of Conan the Barbarian: The Original Comics Omnibus and the Savage Sword of Conan: The Original Comics Omnibus. Fans can look out for Volume 9 of the original Savage Sword of Conan series this November.  

Also announced at SDCC were the launch sales numbers for Conan the Barbarian Comic #1 which goes on sale August 2 in comic shops everywhere. Confirmed sales of the initial print exceeded 80,000 making Conan #1, the largest selling issue in Titan Comics’ history. With a second printing planned and third printing probable, final sales for this debut issue are expected to exceed 100,000 copies.

John Timothy Keehan returned home to Chicago, a Vietnam War veteran ready to make a name for himself in martial arts. But what he found was a hard town, still run by the Outfit—Capone’s mafia. Luckily, Keehan bumped into an old war buddy, Sidney Brown. Together they set forth on a plan to conquer the world of martial arts, a plan that would turn the nice, Irish boy from Beverly Chicago into the most vicious, hairdressing, car-selling, cape-wearing karate master ever to live!

Dark Horse presents a new epic paperback collection in Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories Volume 2: Scum and Villainy! The book contains issues #5—#10 of the Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories comics. It is written by Cecil Castellucci, Amanda Deibert, and Michael Moreci with interior art by Andy Duggan, Andrea Mutti, Riccardo Faccini and Eduardo Mello and colors by Daniel Jackson and Michael Atiyeh. This compendium also features cover art by Cary Nord and Tom Fowler.

Dead Romans is a tragic love story, set in the worst defeat the Roman Empire ever suffered

Dead Romans is an all-new six-issue swords-and-sandals series from Image Comics’ Shadowline imprint. Written by Fred Kennedy, with art by Nick Marinkovich, colors by José Villarrubia and letters by Andrew Thomas, readers will follow the harrowing events in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, the most decisive loss in Roman military history—and the victory that reshapes the people of Germania. 

Arminius has fought for Rome long enough. He is a German by birth, and now that he serves as advisor to the Roman governor of Germania, he sees firsthand the cruelty Rome has inflicted on his people. So he hatches a plan to unite the Germanic tribes, confront Rome’s army in a carefully planned attack, and reclaim Germania for its people.

But Arminius’s plan is complicated by Honoria, the woman he loves. She serves the Roman governor; she is faithful and loyal to Rome. Love and War Collide in March 2023 in Dead Romans
