PANELS

CBLDF: After the Code
Friday,
5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Room 236/238

Earlier this year, the Comics Code Authority was shut down.  For more than fifty years the Code seal has served as a vivid reminder of the brutal government investigation and self-censorship that decimated the industry in the 1950s. It also stood as a standard that led to the censorship of a wide variety of comics. As the Code fades into history, the CBLDF moderates a discussion about how the Code impacted comics and the threats that remain in its absence. The panel will include Sergio Aragones, Mike Friedrich, Paul Levitz, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Marv Wolfman, and will be moderated by CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein.

Also on Friday:
Spotlight on Terry Moore
1:00-2:00
Room 236

Don’t miss this opportunity to catch up with one of the comic industry’s favorite indie creators! Charles Brownstein (CBLDF) will talk with Terry Moore about the finale of his latest series, ECHO, as well as exciting new projects slated for the coming year. This panel is always a fan favorite! Don’t miss it!

CBLDF: Live Art Jam
Saturday,
12:30  2:00 p.m.
Room 250/262

Watch great live art made before your eyes, on the big screen and bid to win the pieces to support a great cause!  The CBLDF Live Art Jam features Tom Hodges (Star Wars), Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), and Terry Moore (Echo), plus special guests.  Get an inside look at the creative act and win great art at the CBLDF Live Art Jam!

All the work the CBLDF does is possible because of supporters like you! Be sure to stop by booth 323 during WonderCon, April 1-3, 2011, to become a member, join us for a signing, pick up exclusive premiums, or just to share a few words of support!

Debuts on
New York Times Best Seller List

Hardcover Collection – A Compilation of the First 6 Issues – #6 on Prestigious List

Cast Signing in Los Angeles, Saturday, February 26th

Second Series Featuring An All-New Story Arc Available Now in Comic Stores

[True Blood: All Together Now hardcover image]San Diego, CA (February 25, 2010) – IDW Publishing and HBO® are proud to announce that the hardcover collection of its first TRUE BLOOD comic story arc, ALL TOGETHER NOW, debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list today. The prestigious list notes the top selling books from the previous week, and TRUE BLOOD captured the number six spot, after just one week on sale. This compilation of all six issues from the first series of the comics features bonus content, including a cover gallery.

“To have our first comic compilation debut at number six on the best-seller list is amazing,” stated James Costos, VP Licensing & Retail, HBO. “It is a true testament to the quality of the product and reach of the True Blood brand.”

To celebrate the huge success of the first TRUE BLOOD comic series, several cast members of the hit HBO show will be signing copies of the collection at Barnes & Noble, The Grove in Los Angeles, on Saturday, February 26th, from 1 to 3 pm.

Featuring the same erotically-charged romance, wry humor, intriguing mystery and suspense the show has become known for, the story treats readers to new insights of their favorite characters. Developed with show creator Alan Ball, along with series writers Elisabeth Finch and Kate Barnow, ALL TOGETHER NOW was co-written by David Tischman and Mariah Huehner. The series was beautifully illustrated by top tier artist David Messina, with additional art by renowned artists J. Scott Campbell and Joe Corroney.

“One of the most exciting and gratifying parts of my job is seeing the reactions of fans,” said IDW True Blood Editor Scott Dunbier, “And I can tell you emphatically that True Blood fans are rabid—which is, of course, delightful.”

The TRUE BLOOD saga continues with a brand new story, TRUE BLOOD: TAINTED LOVE, with the first issue now in stores. Actor Michael McMillian, who plays Fellowship of the Sun leader Reverend Steve Newlin, will co-author the all-new six-issue arc with fan-favorite writer Marc Andreyko.

As with the first arc, IDW’s new TRUE BLOOD comic series will be based on the intriguing world of Bon Temps, offering fans an original story with their favorite characters. In this six-issue series, Jessica is exposed to contaminated bottles of Tru Blood, causing the lovely vampire to go berserk. It’s up to Sookie, Bill and the others to figure out who (or what) is behind the bad Blood. In addition to Jessica, several other Bon Temps residents are making their comic book debut including Hoyt, Terry, Arlene and Steve Newlin. Joining McMillian and Andreyko is artist Joe Corroney, who will bring this latest head-turning series to life. Corroney, along with superstar artist, J. Scott Campbell, will provide covers.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the amazing success of the comics and are excited that the release of the comic collection will make the series even more accessible to fans,” stated show creator Alan Ball.  “Michael and Marc have done an amazing job with the second series, crafting a thrilling story that will leave Trubies wanting more.”

In addition to the print editions, the comic collection and the second series will be available digitally through Sony’s Digital Comics Store and Apple’s iTunes Store.

TRUE BLOOD: ALL TOGETHER NOW ($24.99, 160 pages, hard cover, full color) is now available in stores. Diamond order code DEC10 0370; ISBN 978-1600108686.

TRUE BLOOD: TAINTED LOVE, Issue #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) is now available in stores. Diamond order code DEC10 0367.

Todd McFarlane Celebrates Spawn #200 At Golden Apple

Official Press Release

TODD McFARLANE CELEBRATES SPAWN #200 AT GOLDEN APPLE

SPAWN creator signs at the store that helped launch the hit series in 1992

Berkeley, CA – 22 December 2010 – In 1992, Todd McFarlane co-founded the world’s greatest creator-owned comics company, Image Comics, and released his own best-selling comic book, SPAWN. On January 12, 2011, SPAWN becomes only the second independent series in history to reach the 200-issue mark!

To celebrate, McFarlane will be signing at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles, the same store where McFarlane launched the first issue of the groundbreaking SPAWN series.

“On June 2nd, 1992 I sat in a store called Golden Apple Comics and launched the first issue of my new series, SPAWN.” says McFarlane. “That day literally set the stage for all the success this book has had since. To honor that monumental beginning, I’ll be returning to my roots, so to speak, with the release of the 200th issue of SPAWN, almost 18 years later.”

Fans of SPAWN and McFarlane’s work can meet him on January 12, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Golden Apple Comics, 7018 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA. The signing will be limited to two items per person. The signing will also feature an array of special surprise guests!

Golden Apple Comics Manager Ryan Liebowitz adds, “I am so excited to have Todd back at Golden Apple, 18 years after we hosted the premier event for issue #1. This will truly be a historic day for the comic industry!”

Grammy-and Emmy-winning producer/director Todd McFarlane, creator of SPAWN, is the force behind McFarlane Toys, one of America’s top action figure manufacturers. McFarlane became a true comic book superstar in the 1980s as a result of his work on Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man franchise. With the 1992 launch of SPAWN, McFarlane created one of the most popular heroes of the 1990s. The title’s hugely popular debut sold an amazing 1.7 million copies — an unprecedented feat in independent comics.

The comic became an Emmy Award-winning animated series on HBO and a live-action feature film from New Line Cinema that grossed $100 million. A whirlwind of growth and expansion followed: more comics, action figures, and award-winning entertainment projects.

The breadth of McFarlane’s awards span from two Emmy Awards, a pair of MTV Video Music Awards, and a Grammy Award, to hundreds of international awards for his work in the arts and action figure industry. Todd McFarlane Entertainment continues to develop projects in the video game, film, television and music industries.

Golden Apple has been the premier comic book and pop culture store in Los Angeles since 1979. For over 30 years, the shop has been featured in nearly every local and national media outlet including print, television and the Internet. In addition, this world famous store boasts celebrity clientele, high-profile events and is a hub for entertainment and comic industry professionals alike. Always cutting edge and proactive in the community, the two generations of owners have strived to keep their finger on the pulse and a firm grasp on the marketplace.

Don’t miss Todd McFarlane and special guests, signing the landmark 200th issue of SPAWN at Golden Apple Comics (7018 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90038; 323-658-6047) on January 12, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
