DC Comics Takes an Idea from Washington, DC’s Big Planet Comics

Big Planet Comics is Washington, DC’s best comic book shops and last year during Free Comic Book Day, they used that opportunity and DC comic‘s offering to hand out a coupon in a hope to get return customers.  Well… it looks like DC comics dug the idea as it’ll be expanding that for other shops to do the same.  Check out the cover and kudos to Big Planet Comics for showing what a quality shop is like!

Big Planet Brings Us Alternate Endings to Laika

Bookmark and Share

Nick Abadzis has put together alternate endings to his graphic novel Laika and Washington, DC’s Big Planet Comics has them to celebrate their 25th anniversary.  Big Planet has four locations in the DC area and is the comic book shop I head to each week to pick up my books.  With a great selection and a fantastic staff, it’s a shop to look up to when it comes to wondering what a professional shop is like.

Laika tells the tale of the dog Russia sent into space during the space race.  It’s a pretty depressing ending, so Abadzis has put together some different endings.

This past week artist and writer Paul Hornschemeier was at Big Planet Comics in Bethesda, MD for a signing.  The sparsely attended event provided ample opportunity to chat with him.  Hornschemeier was very friendly and funny, and clearly appreciative of his fans and enjoying what he’s doing.   This is definitely someone to sit down and shoot the shit with if you get a chance.

Paul also agreed to an upcoming interview which I’ll do once I finish reading some of his books including Life with Mr. Dangerous, The Three Paradoxes and Mother, Come Home.

A shout out has to go to Greg and the Big Planet crew, the premier comic book shop in Washington, DC.  As well as Eden over at ComicsGirl.com.
