Aniplex and Crunchyroll announce Global Theatrical Dates for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training-

Crunchyroll has announced international theatrical dates for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training-, bringing Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps back to the big screen in a not-to-be-missed theatrical event starting on February 21. 

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- will allow fans to revisit the gripping finale of the Swordsmith Village Arc while getting a sneak peek at the highly anticipated Hashira Training Arc in one extra-sized blockbuster experience. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- marks the first time fans can watch the finale from the Swordsmith Village Arc in theaters and the first-time-ever they can see the beginning of the Hashira Training Arc.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- will be distributed in North American theaters, including in IMAX and premium large formats (PLFs), starting on February 23 by Aniplex of America, Crunchyroll, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Global theatrical release dates include:

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge published under SHUEISHA’s JUMP COMICS, which consists of 23 volumes and over 150 million copies in publication. The animation production is by ufotable.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- will feature “A Connected Bond: Daybreak and First Light” (Episode 11) from the Swordsmith Village Arc, featuring the conclusion of the fierce battle between Tanjiro and Upper Four demon Hantengu, as well as Nezuko’s triumph over the sun. Seamlessly followed by Episode 1 of the highly anticipated Hashira Training Arc, featuring the start of training conducted by the Hashira in preparation for the forthcoming final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, an episode never before seen by audiences.

Tokyo Godfathers gets a special screening to celebrate 20 years

Anime Expo Cinema Nights invites you to celebrate Tokyo Godfathers, the acclaimed holiday classic from master director Satoshi Kon, as it returns to theaters to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a 4K restoration under the supervision of the original art director and producers.

On Christmas Eve, three homeless companions stumble upon a baby girl in a garbage heap. They name her Kiyoko, and vow to care for her as they track down her family. Haunted by memories of their own broken pasts and pursued by a cast of shadowy characters from Tokyo’s nightlife, Hana, Gin and Miyuki overcome their differences and learn to trust one another as a new, makeshift family. With the New Year fast approaching, the mystery behind baby Kiyoko deepens, and these unlikely heroes discover the surprising — and sometimes miraculous — connections that have brought them all together. The Crunchyroll Industry Panel at Anime NYC 2023 was filled with electrifying announcements and exclusive previews. 

Major Acquisition, Date, and Dub Announcements:

  • Tower of God Season 2: The epic climb resumes in “Tower of God Season 2,” covering pivotal WEBTOON webcomic arcs “The Return of the Prince” and “Workshop Battle,” coming to Crunchyroll in July 2024.
  • Solo Leveling: In “Solo Leveling,” the weak but determined Jinwoo Sung faces deadly dungeons and emerges as a formidable hunter, with the English dub cast announced for the January 2024 release.
  • True Beauty: Based on the hit WEBTOON webcomic of the same name, “True Beauty” tells a compelling tale of Jugyeong, a girl who reinvents herself with makeup, navigating school life, rivalry, and romance, with a simulcast coming to Crunchyroll in 2024.
  • UA HEROES BATTLE: In the new, original episode from My Hero Academia, “UA HEROES BATTLE”, class 1-A combats winter boredom with a new, intense U.A.-themed card game introduced by Mirio Togata, sparking a spirited competition among the students.
  • Delusional Monthly Magazine: Explore bizarre and inexplicable phenomena with “Delusional Monthly Magazine,” an unusual science magazine bringing its outlandish stories to Crunchyroll in January 2024.
  • Senpai is an Otokonoko: Love and identity entangle in “Senpai is an Otokonoko,” where unrequited love leads to surprising revelations and a complex love triangle, launching in 2024.

  • One Piece: Join the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates through the Land of Wano as Luffy faces off against a joint attack from Kaido and Big Mom in the next batch of One Piece English dubs available on Crunchyroll on December 12.
  • Tales of Wedding Rings: High schooler Satou follows his love, Hime, to another realm, becoming a Ring King in a heroic twist of fate in “Tales of Wedding Rings,” premiering January 2024 on Crunchyroll.
  • Sasaki and Peeps: “Sasaki and Peeps” centers on Sasaki, a weary office worker, who discovers his new pet bird, Peeps, is a magical mage from another world, embarking together on a fantastical adventure, set to premiere in January 2024.

MBC Group and Tokyopop announce two Anime Productions – Kami.App and Protocol: Rain

MBC Anime – a strategic initiative by MBC Group and Tokyopop have announced investments in two original anime productions scheduled to debut in Japan and worldwide this month. They are Kami.App and Protocol: Rain.

The shows, which are produced by Fuji TV and TV Asahi, will stream exclusively on Shahid, the world’s leading Arabic-streaming platform by MBC Group. To cater to current and future anime enthusiasts in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), MBC Anime is also now part of the production committees of both Japanese broadcasters.

Kami.App

Streaming this week as a simulcast on Shahid, “Kami.App” is a battle-royale twisted action story where high school student Goro is pitted against rivals in a bid to become the ultimate kami, wielding the power to manipulate the cause and effect of the world. Jaded by everyday life, Goro must confront his high school crush Honoka as part of the deadly competition, revealing the deepest secrets of each kami candidate.

This original production brings together a remarkable creative dream team in the world of anime. Created by YOKO TARO (video game director of “Nier”), written by JIN (creator of “Kagerou Daze”), and directed by Hiroyuki Seshita (known for “Knights of Sidonia”, “Ajin” and “Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters”), “Kami.App” also features character designs by Atsushi Ohkubo, the manga author behind “Soul Eater” and “Fire Force.”

All 13 episodes of Season One are set to stream this year, with a second season planned for 2024.

Protocol: Rain

Also streaming this week as a simulcast on Shahid, “Protocol: Rain” tells the story of Shun Tokinoya, a high school student working part-time at an esports café. He must participate in the “Xaxxerion Championship” to win prize money, which he needs to save the one passion that keeps him going after the loss of his father.

Directed by Yasutaka Yamamoto (“Aharen-san wa Hakarenai”, “Nekopara”) and written by Katsuhiko Takayama (“The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat”, “ALDNOAH.ZERO”), all 12 episodes will stream on Shahid this year. Original character designs are done by booota (“Penguin Highway”) and Kanna Hirayama (“Rent A Girlfriend”, “【OSHI NO KO】”).

Tokyopop announces the launch datte for Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

Tokyopop has announced the launch on December 14th of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, an original new boys’ love manga inspired by the Netflix anime series featuring alter egos of characters from the hit Ubisoft video games.

The Netflix animated series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a rebel super-soldier who escaped the army and planning a final big heist with Alex Taylor before they sail into the sunset. The show was created by Adi Shankar (producer of Netflix’s Castlevania series) and is currently streaming.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is written by Ben Kahn with art by Bayou Kun. The 176 page manga will retail for $14.99. 

Dolph Laserhawk, the once powerful and illustrious super-soldier stationed under the oppressive Eden mega-corporation, stands at a crossroads between staying a mindless killing machine under Eden’s control and joining a band of rebel outcasts on a risky undercover mission. Before he can finally be free of the manipulative forces surrounding him, he must relive the best and worst moments of his life.
