A First Look at Joss Whedon’s Angel #3

BOOM! Studios has revealed a first look at the latest issue of the highly praised reimagining of the brooding vampire—Angel #3 by acclaimed writer Bryan Edward Hill and artist Gleb Melnikov, along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon, available July 31, 2019.

Meet Angel, a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark…including himself. Now, looking for redemption for the atrocities committed by the monster he was when he was first turned at the age of 18, Angel stumbles upon a shocking truth: one of the last vampires he sired is looking for a way to open a portal to a Hell dimension and the only person who can stop it is a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he’s never met…but may now be his greatest enemy.

Darkness has possessed another innocent…and Angel has no choice but to fight them. Tracking this evil to a psychiatric hospital, Angel must find a way to save the host of this deadly and elusive demon, or risk having yet another life on his conscience. Then, after rescuing one of the hospital’s patients, Fred Burkle, Angel may just have a new ally. BOOM! Studios, along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), presents the shocking reimagining of the pop culture phenomenon ANGEL!

Angel walks the line between two worlds; a vampire cursed with a soul, he’s spent centuries battling back the forces that would destroy humanity, in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned. But now, when the trail of the most recent demonic uprising takes him to Sunnydale, he realizes that the redemption he seeks can only come at a startling price.

As Angel reunites with old friends and old spirits in Sunnydale, he comes face to face with a new demon — one set on destroying a generation that Angel is entirely unfamiliar with. Will Angel be able to adapt to this new kind of foe…or will he succumb to the demons of his dark and terrible past as Angelus?

Following the journey of Angel through past and present, critically-acclaimed writer Bryan Edward Hill (Detective Comics, Killmonger) and artist Gleb Melnikov present a brand new, modern take on one of the most iconic vampires in pop culture, perfect for fans and new readers alike!

Find Fan Favorite “Fred” in Angel #2 this June

BOOM! Studios has revealed cover art and story details for Angel #2, the newest issue in the game changing series by an all-star creative team of  acclaimed writer Bryan Edward Hill and artist Gleb Melnikov, along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon, available June 26, 2019.

Angel #2 features the first appearance of fan favorite character Winifred “Fred” Burkle, a math and science prodigy whose mysterious link to the demonic world connects her to the supernatural monster hunting her every step and Angel’s search for his humanity. Angel, the vampire with a soul, has been walking the streets of Los Angeles for years, neither human nor vampire but surviving in the shadows of both worlds. After losing his protege to a demon, Angel has decided to find a way to finally return himself to his human form so that he can escape the guilt of his past, dark actions as the murderous Angelus.

The search for a solution to his cursed, tormented existence has led Angel to a sleepy little town in California known as Sunnydale. But as soon as he arrives and begins stalking the shadows to find a way to restore his humanity, a monstrous new threat emerges to hunt down and torture teens all across town. Now Angel’s got two missions on his hands. But will tracking down this new monster mean he loses the chance to become human forever? And what happens when he runs into the demon’s latest prey, a troubled young woman named Winifred Burkle?

This issue has a main cover by artist Dan Panosian and a variant cover by illustrator Scott Buoncristiano featuring Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan aka “Lorne” the musically inclined demon from another dimension, introduced in the Angel season one episode “Judgment.”
