Classics get Reimagined with My Little Pony

To commemorate ten years of publishing My Little Pony comic books based on the ever-popular Friendship is Magic franchise, IDW Publishing releases in October My Little Pony: Classics Reimagined—Little Fillies, a four-issue miniseries that serves as the first in a series of My Little Pony adaptations of cherished literary classics, as well as the special November release of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic 10th Anniversary Edition.

My Little Pony: Classics Reimagined—Little Fillies, written by Megan Brown, illustrated by Jenna Ayoub, and colored by Heather Breckel, is a new series about love, life, and sisterhood. Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, and Rarity take on the roles of the March sisters, dreaming of life beyond Broncord, Massahoofetts. Rainbow Dash in particular yearns for excitement—something to write about. So when Applejack, the Marches’ neighbor, arrives home with tales of eel-wrangling and apple-eating, Rainbow Dash and her sisters dare to hope for more.

My Little Pony: Classics Reimagined—Little Fillies #1 will be available with multiple cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by series artist Jenna Ayoub, Cover B by Agnes Garbowska, and a special Retailer Incentive variant by Rose Bousamra.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic—10th Anniversary Edition revisits the bestselling issue that started it all, written by Katie Cook, illustrated by Andy Price, and colored by Heather Breckel! Ever since their comic book debut, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity have brought friendship, magic, and fun to comic lovers everywhere. Join them at the very beginning of their decade-long journey with this special reprint issue, with bonus material including a gallery of all eight original covers, an interview with My Little Pony artist and writer Tony Fleecs, and an all-new short from Jeremy Whitley!

Like the Little Fillies debut issue, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic 10th Anniversary Edition will be available with multiple cover variants, including Cover A by Amy Mebberson, Cover B by Andy Price, Cover C by Agnes Garbowska, and two special Retailer Incentive variants by Mebberson and Price, respectively.

Tony Fleecs will Art Direct a Variant Cover program for Skybound’s Dark Ride

Skybound announced an epic variant cover program by superstar creator Tony Fleecs for Dark Ride, the buzzed about new horror comic book series from the Birthright team of Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan. Dark Ride #1 will arrive in comic book shops October 5, 2022. 

Fleecs will serve as art director for the classic homage poster variant cover program which pays tribute to the timeless theatrical posters that serve as inspiration for the amusement park horror series. The 1:25 incentives will span the Cover D slot of Dark Ride’s first four issues, bringing on a new guest artist for each cover. Fleecs’ Stray Dogs co-creator Trish Forstner is the artist at the helm for issue #1, with the Dark Ride world’s rendition of The Little Demon. Incredible homage covers from Agnes Garbowska for issue #2, Andy Price for issue #3, and Dennis Culver for issue #4 will follow. 

This variant program joins an outstanding previously announced cover lineup continuing through Dark Ride’s first arc. In addition to the main cover by Bressan and series colorist Adriano Lucas, Dark Ride’s Cover B variant spotlights park mascot Danny D. Evil, with issue #1 cover by Martín Morazzo and Adriano Lucas, while Cover C showcases Devil Land’s resident femme fatale and horror aficionado, Halloween, with the first four issues’ cover art by Sweeney Boo. Dark Ride #1 will also offer a blank sketch cover.  

Devil Land has been the world’s premiere horror-themed amusement park for over 50 years, home to the scariest ride ever created – The Devil’s Due. But when lifelong fan Owen Seasons begins his first day on the job, he will discover the true horrors happening behind the scenes, the truth about the park’s reclusive creator Arthur Dante and that the job of his dreams might just be a living nightmare.   

Dark Ride #1 will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Since its very inception in 2012, the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic monthly comic book series from IDW has captured the hearts and minds of filly fans everywhere. Now, after almost a decade of publication, we bid a fond farewell to Friendship is Magic with September’s issue #102, the oversized conclusion of the official “Season 10” storyline that picked up where the beloved animated series left off.

But friends, never fear! Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity will return in a new series beginning in October: My Little Pony: Generations! Written by Casey Gilly and illustrated by Michela Cacciatore, the new five-issue miniseries will see the Ponies of two separate generations collide, as the familiar faces from Friendship is Magic must call upon the original G1 Ponies of the 1980s for help against a new witch threat erupting from the Volcano of Doom!
