Be Superman or Batman @ Yahoo

Yahoo in June announced they were recycling unused accounts (Yahoo email, Flickr, etc.) allowing for individuals to make “claims” and try to get an online name that’s unused. For instance I had a wishlist of “Brett” and if that became available I might have gotten brett@yahoo.com. Names were released recently to the wild and those who made successful requests were informed.

Besides the shitstorm and privacy concerns surrounding this all, we can probably consider this a successful and smart move for Yahoo who is struggling for relevancy.

Today, they’ve released a list of the top requested names for men and women on the site. In it all, they also released the fact that two of the highest terms requested were Superman and Batman. Proving the fact that when given a chance, everyone wants to be Batman.

Muslim Green Lantern Hot on Yahoo, Not on Google

It’s interesting to see what hits mainstream and what doesn’t when it comes to comic books and earlier today “Muslim Green Lantern” was burning up the trending charts on Yahoo, reaching the sixth spot in most popular stories.

But, looking at Google, that popularity didn’t translate. Here’s a graph of searches for the term Green Lantern over the past 30 days. I used the general term “Green Lantern” because “Muslim Green Lantern” and “Arab Green Lantern” returned no activity.

Maybe we can just chalk this up to a slow news day on Yahoo?
