Dark Nights: Metal Gets a Soundtrack

Fans of both rock music and comic books received a double shot of awesome at New York Comic Con as DC Entertainment announced an upcoming collaboration with Warner Bros. Records to produce a soundtrack featuring songs inspired by Dark Nights: Metal, this year’s blockbuster comic book event reuniting the best-selling Batman talent team of writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo.

The record will be a six track EP.

Production of the soundtrack will be guided by two of the recording industry’s brightest stars, Tyler Bates and Mike Elizondo. Bates has produced and composed music for movies, including Watchmen, 300 and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, as well as television and video games.  He is also the lead guitarist for the rock band Marilyn Manson. Mike Elizondo, Senior Vice President of A&R at Warner Bros. Records, will co-produce the soundtrack with Bates. Elizondo has worked with some of the most prolific artists in hip-hop, most notably Dr. Dre and Eminem. He has also collaborated with popular music acts such as Twenty One Pilots, Muse, Mastodon and Avenged Sevenfold.

Lights Reveals Skin & Earth, a New Comic Series and Concept Album

Electro-pop sensation Lights reveals the details of her next project, Skin & Earth – an album and comic book series written and illustrated entirely by Lights herself. The digital intro issue will be released in June, with the official print version on sale July 12 via Dynamite Entertainment. The monthly comic book series will kick off just before Comic-Con International, with new music released alongside each issue, leading into the release of Skin & Earth, Lights’ upcoming full-length studio album on Warner Bros. Records.

The comic series follows a young woman, En – a reflection of Lights herself – as she struggles to find hope in a hopeless world. Caught between romance and cults, gods and mortals, En is led down a dark path by new friends/lovers into a twisted fantasy world, forcing her to dig within and find the strength to overcome. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where corporations rule, Skin & Earth is an adventurous tale of loneliness and deceit, but ultimately becomes one of self-discovery and independence.

Skin & Earth will be the fourth studio album from the Canadian singer and songwriter, whose 2015 release Little Machines won Lights her second JUNO Award, for Best Pop Album of the Year.
