Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

MEGA #1

Wednesdays (and now Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Apache Delivery Service #1 (Dark Horse) – Two haunted men are on a hunt in the jungles of Vietnam, searching for clues to a missing treasure trove of gold. A new comic from Matt Kindt, Tyler Jenkins, and Hilary Jenkins? Yeah, we’re in.

Cross to Bear #3 (AfterShock) – The series has turned out to be so much more than a secret org chasing Jack the Ripper across America.

DC vs. Vampires #3 (DC Comics) – The first two issues have been fantastic at the setup of vampires infiltrating the DCU and we’re hoping this one delivers a lot more action as they strike.

Death of Doctor Strange #4 (Marvel) – Who will be the new Sorcerer Supreme? We already know the answer but we want the details!

Deathstroke Inc. #4 (DC Comics) – The comic has been silly fun so far with over-the-top action.

Devil’s Reign #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was fantastic as the Kingpin’s plans for Marvel’s heroes comes together.

The Human Target #3 (DC Comics) – The series has Christopher Chance attempting to figure out who poisoned him and his been so good hitting the noir vibe.

Mazebook #5 (Dark Horse) – A father attempts to bring home his lost daughter. It’s been a haunting series by Jeff Lemire and we want to see how it wraps up.

Mega #1 (Red 5 Comics) – A gigantic creature has been awaken from its eternal sleep in Antarctica and only another sleeping giant can stop it.

Night of Cadillacs #2 (Scout Comics) – Our heroes Stiv and Hope flee supernatural gangs commanded by the sinister godfather Papa Duke.

Power Rangers Universe #1 (BOOM! Studios) – What is the true origin of the Phantom Ranger? And what is his connection to the Morphin Grid?

Stray Dogs: Dog Days #1 (Image Comics) – The first volume of Stray Dogs was amazing so to get any more makes us happy. It being so good? Yeah, we’re beyond excited to get as much as we can.

Swamp Thing: Green Hell #1 (DC Comics) – The Parliaments of the Green, the Red, and the Rot all agree: it’s time to wipe the slate clean and start the cycle of life over again. Written by Jeff Lemire with art by Doug Mahnke? Yeah, this is one to check out.

Task Force Z #3 (DC Comics) – Red Hood leads his own Suicide Squad of zombified villains. The concept is crazy and works so well.

Timeless #1 (Marvel) – Marvel’s 2022 begins here!

Joe Bennett Off Marvel’s Timeless Replaced with Greg Land

In August, Marvel announced a one-shot, Timeless, launching in December from Jed MacKay, Kev Walker, Joe Bennett, and Mark Bagley. A little over two weeks later, Bennett is off the project as the latest credits include Greg Land instead of Bennett in the artist credits.

A Marvel spokesperson has stated that Marvel will not be working with Bennett on “any future Marvel projects” ending a 27 year relationship.

Bennett has been the center of controversy numerous times in recent years resulting in Al Ewing, who recently worked with Bennett on Immortal Hulk, speaking out how he will no longer work with the artist.

Marvel made the “stealth” change in their latest release about the comic which revealed the cover by Kael Ngu which you can see below. It answers the question we had, whether Marvel would continue their relationship with the creator.

Pharoah Miles’ Favorite TV Shows of 2018

Luke Cage Season 2

Luke Cage Season 2 – In what would be its “swan song”, the show comes into its own, telling a unique story, subverting a horrible stereotype, and giving the hero a transition, which fans were sorely cheated out of.

Iron Fist Season 2 – Just like Luke Cage, this series also found its way in its sophomore outing, fans can only speculate where the show would go with two Iron Fists

Timeless – Over its two seasons, the show has more than made fans worldwide, it has given the time travel genre, a few new twists

Daredevil Season 3

Daredevil Season 3 – Though the season started slow, it had a ton of revelations and pushed its titular hero to his limits, as fans got to enjoy the show at its zenith, before its cancellation

Sense8 Series Finale – In this show’s swan song, we get one last team-up that truly puts all other finales to shame, as this particular episode I watched three times just to catch all the things they put in it.

Krypton – Kudos goes out to SyFy for doing a prequel show right, despite one of their earlier attempts, Caprica, failing. They took those lessons learned and applied it to this show, where we get to meet Kal-El’s grandfather and a Back To The Future version of Adam Strange

Titans

Titans – In a fine fist season that will be ending soon, this series gives us a gritty yet fun version of the characters have grown to love and this shows properly ”adults” them up

Black Lightning – As the newest show to be part of the CW’s DC TV Universe, this show strikes the perfect balance between character development, superhero action and tackling relevant issues, even better than its counterparts in its freshman season

The Tick – As beloved the comic, the cartoon and the first live action version of the show are, this version more than sets itself apart, as this one finally gets the humor from the comic.

The Haunting Of Hill House – As a fan of Shirley Jackson, I could not wait for this show, as it more than delivered in spades, and happened to be scarier in places where I least expected it
