Halloween Ends tops the weekend box office but delivers a sad opening for the trilogy

Halloween Ends won the weekend box office with a solid $41.3 million. That was the lowest debut of the new trilogy and might be due to the very mixed word of mouth. 2018’s Halloween opened with $76.2 million and went on to earn $159.3 million domestically. 2021’s Halloween Kills opened with $49.4 million and went on to only earn $92 million domestically.

Internationally, the film opened with $17.2 million for a worldwide total of $58.4 million. It should be interesting to see how well the film does in the second weekend, expect a massive drop but maybe Jason will come back for more as people celebrate Halloween season.

In second place was another horror film and last weekend’s champ Smile which added $12.4 million to its domestic total. It now stands at $71.2 million after 3 weeks. Over the week, the film earned $26.4 million internationally to bring that to $66.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $137.6 million.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile slipped to third place with an estimated $7.4 million. Domestically, the family film has grossed $22.8 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film has grossed $3.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $26.7 million.

The Woman King held steady in fourth place adding $3.7 million to its domestic total. The film has grossed $59.7 million after five weeks. Over the week, the movie earned $6.8 million internationally to bring that total to $16.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $76.5 million.

Amsterdam dropped to fifth place earning $2.9 million. Domestically, the film has grossed just under $12 million after two weeks. Over the week, the film added $3 million internationally to bring that to $6.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed just $18.5 million.

In comic film news…

DC League of Super-Pets is now in its second week on HBO and grossed $369,000 at the box office. It now stands about $93.1 million after a slow start, inching to $100 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $2.6 million to bring its international total to $108.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $201.7 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder looks like it’s done with its run. The film has grossed $343.3 million domestically. Internationally the total is $417.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $760.7 million, a rounding increase meaning there was likely a gain in the tens of thousands over the week.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero got a boost domestically, shooting up about $3.2 million to $38.1 million. Internationally, the film looks steady at $48.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $86.6 million.

Numbers have 52 films earning $76,278,320 from 30,861 theaters. That’s a nice boost from last weekend’s $58,927,041 from 39,154 theaters and 60 films. The average earning was $2,471.67 this past weekend, a nice increase from last weekend’s $1,505.01.

Smile tops the weekend box office again

Smile was a repeat at the top of the box office in another rough weekend. The film grossed an estimated $17.6 million to bring its domestic total to $49.9 million. Over the week, the film grossed $25.5 million internationally to bring that total to $40 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $89.9 million after two weeks.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile debuted in second place with an estimated $11.5 million. No international total has been reported.

Amsterdam debuted in third place with an estimated $6.5 million. The film also grossed $3.5 million internationally for a total of an even $10 million.

In fourth place was The Woman King which grossed an estimated $5.3 million to bring its domestic total to $54.1 million. Internationally, the film grossed $6.6 million over the week to bring that total to an even $10 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $64.1 million.

The weekend box office was still on the weak end of things but it was topped by the horror film Smile. It opened with an impressive $22 million. The horror film also grossed $14.5 million internationally for a solid $36.5 million worldwide weekend.

Don’t Worry Darling dipped one spot coming in second place with an estimated $7.3 million to bring its domestic gross to $32.8 million. Internationally, the film also earned $11.1 million internationally to bring it up to $21.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $54.7 million worldwide.

The Woman King came in third place with just under $7 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $46.7 million. Over the week, the film grossed $2.1 million internationally to bring it to $3.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $50.1 million.

Bros came in fourth with a rather disappointing $4.8 million. No international gross has been reported.

The Avatar rounded out the top five with $4.7 million to bring its domestic total to $4.8 million. Over the week, the film added $19 million to its international total to bring that to $39.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $58.1 million.

It’s been a difficult month at the box office with some of the lowest weekend totals of the year. Don’t Worry Darling debuted in first place but didn’t provide the juice needed to improve things much. The film grossed an estimated $19.2 million domestically and $10.8 million internationally for a debut weekend total of $30 million.

The Woman King slipped one spot to come in second place. The film grossed $11.1 million dropping just 41.5%. Domestically, it has grossed $36.3 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $1.3 million for a worldwide total of $37.6 million.

Avatar came in third place earning $10 million. Internationally, the film grossed $20.5 million for a worldwide total of $30.5 million. The film still holds the record for worldwide gross and this only adds to that.

Barbarian dropped from second place to fourth grossing $4.8 million but it only saw a 26.2% decrease. Domestically, the film has grossed $28.4 million. Over the week, the film grossed another $500,000 internationally to bring that to $1.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $29.9 million.

Pearl rounded out the top five with $1.9 million to bring its domestic total to $6.7 million.

It’s been a rough month at the box office with weekends that just aren’t bringing in the dollars. The weekends have struggled with some of the worst totals of the year. The Woman King did what it could with a best $19 million in its first weekend coming in first. There’s no international gross reported.

Barbarian dropped 40.3% and came in second with an estimated $6.3 million to bring its domestic total to a little over $20.9 million. The film doubled its international earning to $1 million over the week. Worldwide the film has grossed $21.9 million.

In third was Pearl which debuted with a little over $3.1 million. It also reported no international gross.

See How They Run debuted in fourth with an estimated $3.1 million. Internationally, the film grossed $4.5 million to give it a worldwide debut of $7.6 million.

Rounding out the top five was Bullet Train which grossed $2.5 million to bring its domestic total to $96.4 million. Over the week, the film grossed $6.4 million to bring that to $125.7 million. Worldwide the film has earned $222.1 million.
