Sonic the Hedgehog raced into first place at the box office. Over the four days, the film earned an estimated $68 million. It’s the fourth largest Presidents’ Day opening ever. It may go even higher once the final numbers come in. For the three days, the film earned $57 million making it the largest three-day opening ever for a video game adaptation.

The film is doing well with reviews which point to a lot of gold rings in its future. The opening audience gave the film an “A” CinemaScore and the film has a 95% audience rating on RottenTomatoes. The film was 56% male with 70% aged under 25 years old.

The film launched in 40 markets earning an estimated $43 million delivering a weekend total over $100 million.

Birds of Prey dropped to second place with about a 48% drop. The film brought in an estimated $17.1 million over the three days and $19.6 million for the four days. That brings the domestic total to $61.7 million. Internationally, the film added $23 million from 78 markets, about a 46% drop. The international total now stands at $83.6 million for a worldwide total of $145.3 million. The film should be well profitable by the time its run is over but the film will definitely send Warner Bros. back to the drawing board.

Third place was a close one with Fantasy Island currently holding the spot with $12.4 million over the three days and $14 million over the four days. The film received a “C-” CinemaScore, a 9% critic rating on RottenTomatoes and a 45% audience score. The crowd was 52% female with 46% aged 25 or older. The film also launched in 35 markets with $7.6 million.

The Photograph was right behind that film with an estimated $12.3 million over the three days and $13.4 million over four days. The audience was 56% female and 64% were aged 25 and older.

Rounding out the top five was Bad Boys for Life which saw just a 6% dip and earning an estimated $11.3 million over three days and $12.8 million for the four days. It also added $11.1 million from overseas. It has now earned $182.8 million domestically and $187 million internationally and $369.8 million worldwide.
