Marvel’s What If…? 50th Anniversary Celebration Concludes with Runaways, Captain America, and X-Men

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of What If?, Marvel is taking a bold leap into the multiverse to discover mythos-shattering new twists on some of its most definitive stories! The series of one-shots kicks off next month, and Marvel has revealed the covers and story information for the final three What If…? one-shots hitting stands in August!

In What If…? Runaways, Rainbow Rowell returns to Runaways alongside artist Zulema Scotto Lavina to reveal what would happen if the iconic group of teenagers boldly followed in the footsteps of their supervillain parents! Then, in What If…? Captain America, acclaimed writer Marc Guggenheim and X-Men 2099 legend Ron Lim unfreeze Steve Rogers in a world he never saved! And, in What If…? X-Men, rising stars Ashley Allen and Sumit Kumar imagine a world where Professor X was never born and mutantkind’s fate was left in the hands of his evil twin sister, Cassandra Nova!

Marvel celebrates the 50th Anniversary of What If? with new One-Shots!

For 50 years, Marvel Comics has dared to ask What If?, putting bold twists on major Marvel moments and opening the floodgates to the multiverse! To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original What If? series, Marvel will publish eight all-new What If…? one-shots this summer. Crafted by some of today’s biggest talents, the new one-shots shake the foundations of every corner of the Marvel mythos beginning with startling stories starring the X-Men and Thor and continuing with epic reimaginings of pivotal storylines like Secret Wars and Kraven’s Last Hunt! 

The new one-shots kick off in June with What If…? Uncanny X-Men #1, where Gerry Duggan and Jan Bazaldua put a spin on one of comics’ most tragic love stories, and What If…? Thor #1,which sees Torunn Grønbekk and Sergio Dávila shift symbiote history towards a mighty new destiny!

The Silver Surfer is dead. Long live the Silver Surfer.

The penultimate issue of Death of the Silver Surfer, a five-issue limited series by writer Greg Pak and artists Sumit Kumar and Tiago Palma, hit stands earlier this week, revealing the identity of the hero taking up the mantle. In a surprising turn of events, Norrin bequeathed the Power Cosmic to Kelly Koh, a special agent tasked with taking him down. Kelly’s journey from alien hunter to cosmic hero is completed in next month’s finale, Death of the Silver Surfer #5. With the Fantastic Four’s blessing, Kelly will soar through the Marvel Universe moving forward as the new Sentinel of the Spaceways! But first, she’ll team up with her predecessor against an ancient universe-ending threat borne from the sins of Galactus!
