Support Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts’ Literacy Through Comics summer program

The Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts is a nonprofit committed to an expansive creative space that supports all aspects of cartoon art while focusing on the Pacific Northwest. They’re made up of artists, writers, publishers, fans, collectors, animators and visionaries that want to join other world-class museums. Their goal is to create a vibrant, living space that is accessible to all and celebrates the diversity, history, influence, and joy of all aspects of cartoon art.

They’re looking for support for their Literacy Through Comics summer program which you can do by donating to their GoFundMe!

This course is designed for 4th-8th graders from historically underserved communities who are reading below grade level. The goal is to make these classes FREE to students and their families.

Wacom Experience Portland is donating classroom space fully equipped with an array of digital arts tools so students can engage in reading, writing, and drawing comics while also learning about digital art production. It’s a unique opportunity!

Research shows that struggling readers can enhance their reading ability with comics and its unique coupling of words and pictures.

More than half of the budget for these classes was raised through fundraising events, a grant from @orartscomm, and sponsorship from @wacom. But the Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts needs our help to get them over the finish line!
