Red Sonja: She-Devil With a Sword #1

Welcome to the Altered States With Classic Characters from David Avallone!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a mind-bending, multiversal masterpiece starting this June, as Altered States: Warlords brings together some of the publisher’s biggest stars for a crossover epic by David Avallone and Mariano Benitez-Chapo.

Welcome to Altered States… Dynamite Entertainment’s daring take on parallel realities, alternate tales, and unexpected outcomes in the vein of beloved brands like What If? and Elseworlds. Avallone and company are ready to ramp things up for readers with the most ambitious story in the line to date!

Red Sonja, the She-Devil of Hyrkania, suddenly finds herself far away from the familiar Hyborean lands — transported to the ruby sands of Barsoom, or as Earth-readers know it, Mars. What follows will set up events that ripple across time and space, drawing in additional legendary heroes from all across the galaxy.

John Carter and Dejah Thoris, known as veritable Warlords of Mars, will expectedly leave their mark in this story. Meanwhile, another beloved Edgar Rice Burroughs icon in Tarzan, the Lord of the Jungle comes directly from Earth into this tale. Last but certainly not least, a native of the mysterious planet Drakulon will join the fray — Vampirella!

Writer David Avallone is renowned for his seamless voices for wise-cracking heroines like Elvira and Bettie Page, as well as a pulse for pulp. He reunites for Altered States: Warlords with rising star artist Mariano Benitez-Chapo. The Argentinian-turned-Philadelphian grad of The Kubert School is stepping up for his biggest project yet, following a string of Savage Tales specials with Avallone.

The series is complemented with a range of gorgeous variant covers pulled from across the worlds of Altered States. Superstars Joseph Michael Linsner and Mike Rooth wow with covers showcasing the She-Devil in the first issue, with other characters to follow. Benitez-Chapo contributes covers on each issue, all designed to connect with each other. Note that final covers for subsequent issues will be in full color, his stunning pencil and ink work is being showcased, and variants will also be available presenting his work in that manner. Cosplayer Jackie Goehner features on a photo cover, complete with an impressive axe.

The first issue will also be available through a mystery blind bag release. This offering includes three separate versions of the issue, pulled randomly from a range of virgin, lineart, and other premium books for collectors.

Red Sonja Faces Revolution in Hyboria by Rory McConville and Pablo de Bonis!

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a brand-new flagship ongoing series hitting fans this May, as Red Sonja rips and tears into She-Devil With a Sword driven by writer Rory McConville and artist Pablo de Bonis.

“Know also, ‘o prince, that in the self-same days that the Cimmerian did stalk the Hyborian Kingdoms, one of the few swords worthy to cross with his was that of Red Sonja, warrior-woman out of majestic Hyrkania.” — The Nemedian Chronicles

The fiery-haired heroine of Hyrkania finds herself caught in the middle of a spring of revolution. A turbulent movement is determined to reshape all of Hyboria in their image, and have no interest in sparing anyone in their way. The She-Devil must protect the last descendant of an ancient bloodline from their scourge. The person under Sonja’s protection, Aretha, is needed for a blood ritual, and Sonja sets out to try to free her from this cursed fate. Questions will arise through this latest quest that will shake the She-Devil to her core!

Red Sonja: She-Devil With a Sword #1 features the first appearance of the Brotherhood of the Rising Sun, as well as several new friends and foes of Red Sonja in her ongoing epics.

Irish icon Rory McConville has been a rapidly rising star in comics, a key powerhouse in the revived scorching hot popularity of the Spawn mythos contributing to multiple titles, chronicling the latest cases of Judge Dredd, independent titles like Time Before Time and Write It In Blood, and has dipped his toes into the Dynamite pool co-writing The Terminator: Metal alongside Declan Shalvey. Now he’s jumping headfirst into the deep end by taking on one of the publisher’s crown jewels. Rory is joined in this bold new series by artist Pablo de Bonis. The duo and the rest of the creative team are sharpening their swords, ready to present an all-new set of sagas starring the She-Devil.

The first issue features a range of electrifying cover artists including an instantly iconic piece by Stuart Sayger, the return of fan-favorites Lucio Parrillo, and Joseph Michael Linsner, as well as Mike Rooth, and a cosplay photo from Woman of Wonder. Fans can customize their own cover or get one from a favorite creator via a Blank Authentix. For collectors who love the chase and mystery, a premium blind bag is available featuring three limited editions of the issue selected randomly from a range of covers exclusive to this offering.

This is only the beginning. Red Sonja: She-Devil With a Sword launches a new wave of epic adventures for the She-Devil — one of several major projects set to thunder onto shelves in 2026 and beyond!

NYCC 2025: Vampirella Warms Fans This Winter With Action-Packed Special!

She’s perhaps most at home in the Halloween season, close to when Dynamite is sharing this news, but the Daughter of Drakulon is a year-round superstar in comics! And this winter she’s getting ready to warm the hearts of fans with another action-packed special from the rising creative duo of Liam Johnson and Jordan Michael Johnson this January.

The Vampirella Winter Special features 28 stunning pages of the story “Young Blood.” When a patrolling Vampi flying high above the rooftops of New York City is ambushed and entrapped by way of hundreds of tranquilizer rounds, her latest mysterious adventure is just kicking off. She quickly realizes that an enigmatic and conniving billionaire has captured her and plans to extract her supernatural blood resources for his own pursuit of timeless aesthetics and eternal life.

If everyone’s beloved vampiric antiheroine can escape her bonds, she’ll still have a serious fight on her hands if she’s ever to escape from the deep sub-basement she’s found herself in. Along the way, she’ll come blow to blow with all manner of foes, from armed guards to feral vampires enslaved for the same purposes as her. When she finally gets the opportunity to confront her maniacal captor, a question remains if her blood transfusions simply restored his youth, or if more is afoot…

This seasonal special follows the Johnson and Johnson (no familial relation to each other or any corporations) duo’s collaboration on the Vampirella Halloween Horror project. As their next Vampi epic is being announced, fans can pick up their latest from the racks of their favorite retailers.

This upcoming deluxe release is complemented by four fantastic covers by Mike Rooth, Joseph Michael Linsner, Celina, and fan-favorite cosplayer Joanie Brosas.

Welcome to Altered States — Dynamite Entertainment’s parallel reality in the vein of DC’s Elseworlds and Marvel’s What If?!

In the summer of 1976, Tori Sachs and her friends went to an innocent beach party to celebrate the end of high school… and wandered into a scene of satanic carnage that would shock the world!

Now, decades later, the truth can at last be told, and the burning questions answered: Why were the teens targeted for slaughter that night? And what unholy creature did they fall victim to?

Written by master of the macabre RAY FAWKES (Constantine, Justice League Dark) and illustrated by veteran Purgatori whisperer FEDERICO SORRESSA, Altered States: Purgatori Grindhouse returns readers to the golden age of slasher entertainment — complete with sinfully era-appropriate covers from JOSEPH MICHAEL LINSNER, LUCIO PARRILLO, MIKE ROOTH, and cosplay by RACHEL HOLLON!
