SDCC 2025: MeTV’s Svengoolie & The Sven Squad Make their San Diego Comic-Con Debut

Calling all horror fans! Don’t miss this spooktacular panel celebrating the greatest horror films and characters of all time, and the enduring legacy of Svengoolie as we explore the past, present and future of TV horror hosting. As the last nationally broadcast horror host on the air, Svengoolie represents a unique legacy in television history, blending classic monster movies with comedy and fan engagement to keep this beloved tradition alive since the 1970s – and on MeTV since 2011.

This summer Svengoolie is excited to showcase some new movies to the Svengoolie library, including Earth Girls Are Easy which makes its MeTV debut on Saturday, July 26 at 8pm ET/PT, with the Sven Squad also taking over Svengoolie’s dungeon for the night to serve as official hosts. Attendees will get a SDCC exclusive Svengoolie and Sven Squad collectible trading card set and a limited edition Svengoolie button! 

Legendary horror host Svengoolie (Rich Koz) will be joined by members of his Sven Squad Sarah Palmer (Gwengoolie), Scott Gryder (IMP) and Bill Leff (Nostalgiaferatoo), plus Svengoolie Executive Producer Jim Roche for a panel moderated by Dan DiDio, former co-publisher of DC Comics.

NYCC 2022: MeTV Announces Original Svengoolie Comic Books Coming In 2023 from Frank Miller Presents

MeTV has announced the development with Frank Miller Presents on full-length comic books starring Svengoolie, with two comics set to release in 2023. Fans attending the Svengoolie panel at New York Comic Con this afternoon were the first to hear the news. 

Svengoolie previously starred in 2019’s Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe written by Dan DiDio, which featured Svengoolie starring alongside DC Comics super-heroes Superman, Wonder Woman, as well as Gotham nemesis The Joker. 

In other news, Svengoolie continues the hunt for the ‘Spawn of Svengoolie,’ inviting fans nationwide to download the new Svengoolie mobile app and audition for the chance to enter his dungeon to join his universe. Fans are also auditioning in the MeTV booth at New York Comic Con this weekend.

Also, this October MeTV continues its programming event, ‘Svengoolie’s Halloween BOOnanza,’ a month-long celebration of all things Svengoolie, promising spooky, kooky and fiendishly fun movies, programs and specials for the entire family. Featured programming includes a Svengoolie movie showcase every Saturday night followed by an all-new season of the Svengoolie companion series Sventoonie, Sunday afternoon mini-marathons of spooky episodes of classic TV series, plus a horror-themed all-new episode of original series Collector’s Call on October 9.

Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe this October

DC and MeTV are bringing fans one of the quirkiest pop-culture mashups of all time when Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe, a series of custom inserts featured in DC comic books on sale throughout the month of October. Each two-page “chapter” will be written by DC Publisher and Svengoolie superfan Dan DiDio, with an assist from Svengoolie himself, plus art by Chris Jones. 

Svengoolie has been a beloved TV staple since the 1970’s, putting a humorous spin on classic science fiction and horror films from Hollywood history. Since 1979, Rich Koz, a.k.a. Svengoolie has entertained legions of sci-fi and horror fans with comedy sketches, jokes, and song parodies; the show has become a highlight of MeTV’s line-up, airing Saturday nights at 8 PM/7C. 

On the run from (what else?) an army of homicidal rubber chickens, Svengoolie gets some unexpected help from Wonder Woman and John Stewart, who urge him to get to the Hall of Justice. But before he can make it to safety, he has to survive a showdown against the one responsible for these perilous pullets, The Joker!  

Fans attending New York Comic Con will get a chance to learn more about this comic and celebrate Svengoolie’s 40th anniversary during a special tribute panel hosted by Dan DiDio on Friday, October 4 from 2:45-3:45pmET at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, Room 1A24.
