Kickstarter Spotlight: Lonesomes Issue 1
If you could see your loneliness, what would it look like?
Lonesomes tells the story of a group of lonely kids who discover mystical creatures called Lonesomes that are drawn to their unique loneliness. Together, they delve into the world and lore of these creatures while simultaneously learning about themselves.
The “collectible monster genre”, think Pokemon, Digimon, Yokai Watch, etc, has been thriving for over 20 years. That’s what makes it the perfect framework for this story. You know the world of collectible monsters. You’ve experiences dozens of games and shows that bask in the worlds and conventions this genre has created. Lonesomes riffs on this colorful palate to push the genre to an entirely new space.
Loneliness is one of the most universal emotions. That said, I don’t think we ever really take the time to engage it and learn how to carry it. That’s where Lonesomes comes in. The book is a fantastical adventure story with its core grounded in a real emotional place plenty of us have and will end up in during the course of our lives. It stares the emotion in the eye and explores the difficult feelings that come with it while maintaining a fun, whimsical tone.
