SDCC 2023: Captain Action 1/6th Scale Figures Undergo Revolutionary Reimagining Led by LBO

Captain Action, the iconic, The Original Superhero Action Figure and Dr. Evil , The Original Evil Action Figure known for their transformative abilities, are about to embark on an exciting new chapter. LBO, Let’s Be Onyx, a cutting-edge manufacturer of designer collectibles comprised of seasoned industry creatives, has been granted the licensing rights by Captain Action Enterprises, LLC to produce groundbreaking and reimagined, high-end 1/6 scale action figures and collectibles for the Captain Action property. This new vision aims to honor the rich history of Captain Action while introducing captivating updates that will enthrall a new generation of fans worldwide.

Making its debut at San Diego Comic Con International this July 19th, LBO is set to revolutionize the Captain Action figure landscape with first looks at new designs, characters, licenses and accessories. This distinguished think tank, fueled by the expertise of industry veterans, including Michael Polis (Atomic Toybox Entertainment), Steve Forde (GoHero), Kwamé, Acori Honzo and LaWanda Shepherd (House of Honzo), and Scott Kuenzli (Disburst), is committed to paying homage to Captain Action’s storied past while drawing inspiration from the evolutionary paths of several beloved toy franchises. 

The rebranding will infuse the Captain Action universe with a touch of the unexpected, creating a diverse and captivating world that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation.

The San Diego Comic-Con panel, Captain Action: Introducing New Voices to a Legendary Property, will be held Friday, July 21st at 7:00 in room 23ABC at the convention center. 

The forthcoming Captain Action collectibles, set to be unveiled in Fall 2024, will feature a reinvigorated lineup that embraces nostalgia, incorporates cutting-edge design elements, and invites endless hours of imaginative play.

AfroComicCon Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining

AfroComicCon will host the Hip-Hop And Comics: Cultures Combining panel! Hip-Hop and comics exist in constant communication: name-checking and reflecting each other, trading ideas back and forth, and sharing many common inspirations and influences. 

In this program, creators and innovators will join historian and journalist Patrick A. Reed to discuss the ties between these two vital creative cultures. Panelists include Jack Brown/Wildchild (dancer and member of the hip hop group, Lootpack), Miles Brown (actor from the hit series, Black-ish), DJ LiKWUID (DJ, Emcee, Music Curator, and artivist), Danny Lore (comic book writer, Queen Of Bad DreamsJames Bond, and more), Vita Ayala (comic book writer, The Wilds2020 Ironheart, ane more), Tajai (member of the hip hop group, Souls of Mischieg), Kwamé (recording artist, producer, and film composer), Chali 2na (co-founder of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli), Murs (rapper and co-author of Yumiko: Curse Of The Merch Girl), and more! 

Patrick A. Reed is a NYC-based pop culture historian, curator, and journalist who specializes in the fields of comics, popular music, and Hip-Hop culture. He has written for clients including MTV, IDW, Sony Music, and ComicsAlliance; he also conducts programs on comic and Hip-Hop culture at universities, conventions, museums and festivals around the country; and is the Curatorial and Marketing Consultant for the Marvel: Universe Of SuperHeroes exhibition.


AfroComicCon​‘s 1st virtual convention will be held on October 24, 2020. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the annual event started in 2017 by the ​Oakland Technology & Education Center (OTEC), ​will be held virtually and free through a portal on the organization’s website. Sponsored by the NNPA, the ​Oakland A’s, and Pixar Entertainment, AfroComicCon promises to be a day full of exciting panels, screenings, entertainment, gaming, cosplay and special guests. The 12-hour event is currently slated to be live-streamed across multiple platforms including YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook. You can register now.

Rapper & Super Producer Kwamé is coming to AfroComicCon

AfroComicCon has announced recording artist Kwamé will be among its Special Guests for their virtual convention! The talented rapper and super-producer, will be one of the guest DJs for the event!

Kwamé first emerged on the music scene in 1989 at the age of 16 with one of Hip Hop’s classic albums, The Boy Genius and along with timeless songs such as the Rhythm and Ownlee Eue, selling over 2 million records as an artist. Kwamé is also a fashion trendsetter sparking the Polka Dot craze. Born in Queens, New York, Kwamé was surrounded by musical influences as a child, including family friends such as Stevie Wonder and Lionel Hampton. He received a drum set from Lionel Hampton and a harmonica from Stevie Wonder. 

Now as a producer, Kwamé has produced many multi-platinum albums garnering over 30 million sales and has #1 singles such as On Fire by G Unit’s Lloyd Banks and Will Smith’s Switch. Kwamé is busier than ever with his K1 studios and has been highly sought after from every corner of the industry. He has produced tracks for Mary J Blige, Christina Aguilera, The Pussycat Dolls, Method Man, JoJo, Talib Kweli, Yung Joc, Mya, Fantasia, Tweet, Missy, 50 Cent, Keyshia Cole, and many others. 

Kwamé is involved with film scores as well, scoring for the films Step Up and Step Up 2Fantastic 4, Stomp the YardScream 4, and The Comebacks. He was also the music producer/supervisor/composer for the lifetime film, Seasons of Love

In 2015, Kwamé officially relaunched his indie label Make Noise/Caroline/Capitol Records. The flagship artist is R&B singer/songwriter, Vivian Green.
