SLG Publishing to release Memories of Taiwan which collects Nineteen Artists’ True Stories of Building a Life on the Island

Memories of Taiwan

SLG Publishing has announced  the upcoming release of Memories of Taiwan: A Comic Anthology, a 266-page collection of true, autobiographical comics from nineteen artists and writers who left home and made Taiwan their own. Edited by Ray Hecht, the book gathers the complete run of the acclaimed self-published series Visions of Taiwan Taiwan into a single volume for the first time. It collects all four issues of the series.

The anthology brings together contributors from the United States, Canada, Northern Ireland, Honduras, Colombia, South Africa, Italy, Malaysia, and Indonesia, each rendering their own corner of Taiwanese life in a distinct visual style — from woodcut printmaking to digital illustration to loose autobiographical sketch comics. Stories inside range from a first scooter license gone wrong and a solo move across the world, to Ghost Month superstitions, tomb-sweeping traditions, night markets, dragon boat festivals, and the everyday work of building a family and a home far from where it started.

Contributors include Ray Hecht, Bronwen Shelwell (cover artist), Fabienne Good, Erique Chong, Jon Renzella, Patty Hogan, Todd Allen Williams, Joel Fremming, Roelien Immelman, Stefano Misesti, Angela Sauceda, Kim Glidden, Andrew Quartermain, Daniel Martinez Sierra, Kristin Foss, Paulina Olejnik, Thai Martin, Daniel C. Moore, and Royce Widjaya.

Memories of Taiwan is currently in pre-launch on Kickstarter. Books are expected to ship before the end of the year.
