NYCC 2023: Kayden Phoenix returns with an new universe, The Majestics

Get ready for the highly anticipated New York Comic Con! Amidst the excitement, Kayden Phoenix is making a triumphant return, bringing forth an entirely new universe known as The Majestics. Following the groundbreaking debut of A La Brava, the first- ever Latina superhero team in comic book history, Phoenix now unveils a captivating lineup of comic books featuring Native and Latina princesses.

As both the creator and writer, Kayden Phoenix, who has long been an enthusiastic attendee of the convention, takes pride in standing on the other side of the table with her own publishing company, Phoenix Studios. Inspired by the grandeur of NYCC, Phoenix intends to empower and invigorate her audience through her Latina princesses. Her goal is to break free from the limited portrayal of skin colors that society has imposed upon us for so long.

By combining Phoenix’s imaginative stories with the talent of emerging Latina artists like 2D animator Fer Lozada, known for her work on HBO, Netflix, Discovery Kids, and Mattel and newcomer Fanny Arteaga, the result is a stunning collection of progressive art that caters to new audiences.

Among the princesses introduced by Phoenix Studios, we have Mexica, an Aztec princess who embarks on a journey outside of Aztlan to solve three riddles as part of her princess initiation. Following her is Alora, a witch princess who competes with other “possible” princesses to prove herself as the true princess. Then there’s Novi, the space princess who finds herself on the run from corporations seeking to exploit her tachyons. Debuting at NYCC is Macab, the death princess who ventures to Earth to correct a mistake she unintentionally made. In the near future, Phoenix Studios will release Swan, the water princess who gets abducted by pirates, and the culmination of all the princesses in a thrilling team-up adventure known as The Majestics.

SDCC 2022: A La Brava, the First Latina Superhero Team Debuts!

As covid restrictions end in Southern California, the illustrious San Diego Comic Con shines its light welcoming eager comic and toy enthusiasts to run amuck on the convention floor. With their open doors, comes the first Latina superhero team in comic book history, A La Brava.

Creator/Writer Kayden Phoenix, having been a long-time full pass attendee herself, is proud to see herself on the other side of the table with her publishing company, Phoenix Studios.

Combine Phoenix’s vision with a fresh-eyed Latina artist team like acclaimed GLAAD and Eisner-nominated illustrator, Eva Cabrera (SANTA, LOQUITA) and newcomer Amanda Julina Gonzalez (JALISCO, RUCA), an uprooted New Mexican who recently graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design in Animation, and you get history-making, invigorating art for new audiences.

JALISCO, a blade-wielding folklorico dancer that uses her culture as her weapon. SANTA, a brawler that takes down the ICE detention centers. LOQUITA, a supernatural teen detective. RUCA, a chola serving justice. BANDITA, the gunslinger in modern day New York. A LA BRAVA, the 1st Latina superhero team in history.

With the rise of superheroes throughout the years in movies and comics, fair representation has been a long-discussed topic. Luckily, Phoenix Studios has answered back by introducing a team of Latina superheroes called A La Brava. In this superhero universe, Latinas of different heritages fight against female injustices. Each book tells its origin story and social cause. In the end, the Latina superheroes form a team called A La Brava.

Being a 3rd generation Chicana from East Los Angeles, Kayden Phoenix wanted to create Latina superheroes as multifaceted, atypical, and diverse as the people she’s always found in the real world. “A big part of my life’s purpose is to give voice to stories as multifaceted, atypical, and diverse as the people we find in the real world.”

Combine Phoenix’s passion with a fresh-eyed Latina artist team like acclaimed Eisner nominated illustrator, Eva Cabrera and newcomer Amanda Julina Gonzalez, an uprooted New Mexican who recently graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design in Animation, and you get beautiful and inspiring crafted pieces of art.

Though a relatively new Universe, only the first three Latina superhero books are out, WonderCon found and invited the A La Brava to be apart of the show. Kayden Phoenix and Amanda Julina Gonzalez are completely grateful to be in ‘Rise of the Latina Superhero’ panel (Fri March 26th at 1pm PST) as well as have a virtual booth there next weekend March 26th and 27th.
