Lilo & Stitch Hold on to First Place While Ballerina Dances into Second
Lilo & Stitch held on to first place at the weekend box office for the third weekend in a row. The film shows that Disney’s live-action remake strategy isn’t a total bust as to movie added $32.5 million to its domestic gross and internationally it gross $106.1 million over the week. It has now grossed $335.8 million domestically, $436.8 million internationally and $772.6 worldwide. It’s sure to cross $1 billion before its run is over.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opened in second place with $25 million domestically and $26 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $51 million. The first film opened with $14.4 million and went on to gross $86.1 million worldwide. The second debuted with $30.4 million and then went on to gross $174.3 million worldwide. The third film in 2019 opened with $56.8 million and grossed $328.3 million worldwide. And, the fourth film in 2023 opened with $73.8 million for $440.2 million worldwide. It’ll be interesting to see where this spinoff winds up and if the John Wick fans will come out over time.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning slipped to third place with $15 million domestically bringing that to $149.2 million. Internationally, the movie is now at $301.2 million for a worldwide gross of $450.4 million.
Karate Kid: Legends dropped one spot to come in fourth with $8.7 million to bring its domestic gross to $35.4 million. Internationally, it grossed $12.6 million over the week to lift that to $38.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $74 million.
Final Destination: Bloodlines rounded out the top five with $6.5 million and it has now grossed $123.6 million domestically. Internationally it has grossed $133.6 million for a worldwide total of $257.2 million.
In comic movie news…
Thunderbolts* added $2.5 million to its domestic total this weekend to bring that to $186.5 million and internationally it added $400,000 over the week where it has now grossed $188.1 million for a worldwide total of $374.6 million.
Captain America: Brave New World‘s run looks like it has ended with $200.5 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $214.6 million for a worldwide total of $415.1 million.
The weekend box office saw a total of 60 films gross $112,805,126 from 34,187 theaters compared to last weekend’s $147,039,752 from 62 films and 29,921 theaters. This weekends average was $3,299.65 compared to last weekend’s $4,914.27.
