DC’s Year of the Villain Delivers Battle-Damaged Logo Covers in August

In 2019 it’s good to be bad for the villains of the DC Universe. “Dark Gifts” is the featured theme for August, as the vilest villains in the DC Universe take up Lex Luthor’s offer to be the ultimate versions of themselves, destroying their arch-foes—DC’s greatest heroes—in the process.
Fans will see immediate evidence of just how much trouble DC’s heroes are in with a series of covers featuring “battle-damaged” versions of their logos.

From Action Comics to Wonder Woman, these covers, combined with the distinctive “Year of the Villain” cover banner, provide a significant visual cue to the epic struggles within each issue, struggles that the heroes may not be able to overcome. As the Year of the Villain continues to escalate throughout September and beyond, the cover logos will sustain increased damage, leading to a line-wide villain takeover in November. Fans should be sure to check out the following titles when they hit shelves in August:

  • ACTION COMICS #1014 – Cover by Brandon Peterson (on sale August 28)

First rule of magic: things can always get worse! Man-Bat learns that the hard way when he plays narrator and chronicles the nightmarish menagerie known as the Otherkind-horrific, monstrous entities such as “the Soup,” “the Rip” and “the Offspring”-that burst through the Sphere of Gods and invaded Earth. The JLD soon realize they’re no match for an invading horde of hellspawn, and to have any kind of chance, they’ll have to go down a darker path. But how much darker can this team get before they become monsters themselves?

The Justice League Dark…trapped in the mystic realm of Myrra! Their jailer? Blue Devil…and he wants revenge on Detective Chimp! Seems Bobo tried to magically resurrect his best friend, the original Nightmaster, but lost control of the spell and filled Myrra with zombies instead. And left Blue Devil behind to get eaten. So BD’s kinda sorta maybe got a reason to be pissed. With that in mind, will Wonder Woman and the rest of the JLD even step up to help Bobo against a raging Blue Devil? That sounds bananas to us.

Wonder Woman’s magic act…banned! The DCU’s magical community collectively freaks out and forbids Wonder Woman and the JL Dark team from meddling in magic anymore after the disastrous events of the “Witching Hour” storyline. The team seeks refuge in the only place they can think of: Detective Chimp’s inherited, magical realm of Myrra-but not everyone is happy to bow to the new Nightmaster! So how can things get worse for the sorcery super-team? One word: dragons!
