Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror gets a Deluxe Edition for English Audiences

No one in the small town of Dunwich knew who young Wilbur Whateley’s father was—or that the hideous outcast boy was the most dangerous sorcerer alive. Now, Dark Horse Manga will bring Gou Tanabe’s adaptation of the cosmic horror tale to English audiences in H.P. The horror was born before dawn on February 2, 1913—the feast of Candlemas, although the people of Dunwich call that ancient festival by a different name. Of unknown father, Wilbur Whateley was not christened—yet he descended still from a once-proud Puritan family that left Salem in 1692 to found Dunwich, Massachusetts. 

Dr. Henry Armitage, head librarian at Miskatonic University, drives the dusty, rutted roads out to Dunwich to meet the child prodigy with whom he has been corresponding on the most abstruse and disturbing lore. Dr. Armitage can hardly believe the sight of the priceless hoard of occult books rotting away in the Whateley farmhouse—nor that of the dark, goatish Wilbur, for whom those books have been his only education.

Gou Tanabe‘s Eisner and Harvey Award-nominated adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness gets a much-requested, oversized hardcover Deluxe Edition treatment from Dark Horse Manga.

The Call of Cthulhu’s insanity comes in manga form

Gou Tanabe, the artist of the Eisner-nominated H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, returns to the chilling horror of H.P. Lovecraft’s published works with the manga H.P. Dark Horse Manga presents H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth, set to arrive this fall. This graphic novel collects the full manga series by Eisner and Harvey Award nominee Gou Tanabe in one complete volume, translated by Zack Davisson. It also includes 12 pages in full color with a tip-in title page embellished with silver ink.

In the winter of 1927-28, the isolated coastal settlement of Innsmouth, Massachusetts was assaulted by U.S. government agents—its waterfront burned and dynamited, its people taken away to internment camps. Yet that was neither the beginning nor the end of the horror uncovered by a young antiquarian who traveled to Innsmouth in search of rumors from the town’s dead past, only to find them still very much alive…and find truths lying under water deeper and colder than any earthly grave!
