DnDoggos: Spells Like Trouble kicks off a new adventure for our dice rolling dogs

Magnus, Pickles, Tonka, and Zoey are ready to play! After leveling up, the doggos have new spells, new gear, new maps, and even a new friend: Toast the cat! But Maxilla’s spell has woken a slumbering giant, and the threatening rumbles are growing louder. Plus, their new friend Toast has an unusual type of magic that is causing all kinds of trouble for our heroes.

Will leveling up help the DnDoggos and Toast stop Maxilla before she causes even more trouble? Or will their own magic get the best of them?

Sew Totally Nala is another great graphic novel for younger readers by Misako Rocks!

Nala loves fashion – especially kawaii fashion, inspired by Japanese streetwear. And Nala is about to have the best summer ever, as she attends a special fashion camp in the city.

Fashion camp is challenging, and there are other kids attending who are really talented. Nala wants to stay true to her designs, but wonders if they will measure up. As her self-doubt grows, she is visited by a squirrel named Timothy, who claims he can help her. But what does a squirrel know about fashion?

Timothy may prefer peanuts to kawaii outfits, but he knows for sure that Nala totally needs to build her confidence. Together, Nala and Timothy rise to a fun summer challenge that will remind readers how good it feels to believe in themselves.

Arcana: The Lost Heirs is a solid opening chapter and leaves us wanting more

James, Daphne, Koko, and Sonny have all grown up surrounded by magic in the Arcana, an organization of witches that protects the magical world, run by the mysterious and secretive Majors. Eli Jones, however, hadn’t even known other witches existed . . . until he stumbled into James. As James introduces him to the world of the Arcana, Eli finds the family he never had and a blossoming romance with James.

The five new friends soon realize that sinister things are afoot, and everything may not be what it seems at the Arcana. When the group delves deeper into the mystery surrounding the deaths of their parents and the Majors’ rise to power, they discover that they’re at the center of a curse―one they’ve just unwittingly set into motion. As the friends search for answers, they’ll have to confront the cursed legacy that links them in hopes of freeing their futures.

We Could Be Magic reminds us of the magical worlds Disney and more entertain us with

When Tabitha Laurie was growing up, a visit to Sommerland saved her belief in true love, even as her parents’ marriage was falling apart. Now she’s landed her dream job at the theme park’s prestigious summer program, where she can make magical memories for other kids, guests, and superfans just like her. All she has to do is audition for one of the coveted princess roles, and soon her dreams will come true.

There’s just one problem. The heroes and heroines at Sommerland are all, well… thin. And no matter how much Tabi lives for the magic, she simply doesn’t fit the park’s idea of a princess.

Given a not-so-regal position at a nacho food stand instead, Tabi is going to need the support of new friends, a new crush, and a whole lot of magic if she’s going to devise her own happily ever after. . . without getting herself fired in the process.

Swing is an interesting graphic novel about standing up for oneself

When Izzy and Marcus are paired together to perform a swing dance routine for a gym project, it’s no surprise that everything goes up in flames, including their grade in the class. Until their gym teacher proposes a deal: if the pair performs the swing routine in the upcoming talent show, they’ll receive extra credit and a passing grade. They accept. . . but Izzy has her own proposal for Marcus: this time, she gets to be the lead.

The Baker and the Bard: A Cozy Fantasy Adventures has some good moments but also some headscratchers

Juniper and Hadley have a good thing going in Larkspur, spending their respective days apprenticing at a little bakery and performing at the local inn. But when a stranger makes an unusual order at the bakery, the two friends (and Hadley’s pet snake, Fern) set out on a journey to forage the magical mushrooms needed to make the requested galette pastries.

Along the way, Juniper and Hadley stumble across a mystery too compelling to ignore: Something has been coming out of the woods at night and eating the local farmers’ crops, leaving only a trail of glowy goo behind. Intent on finally going on an adventure that could fuel their bardic craft, Hadley tows Juniper into the woods to investigate.

What started as a simple errand to pick mushrooms soon turns into a thrilling quest to save some furry new friends–and their caretaker, a softspoken little fey named Thistle–who are in danger of losing their home.
